Holders of the qualification will normally be expected to enter employment involving business ICT, with a view to progressing to a managerial position. They will also be suitable for vacancies in the smaller organisation where a broader base of knowledge and skills is required, while a career in computer hardware/software sales is another realistic objective. The programme emphasises the importance of practical/project work across all modules. With a CCENT, a network professional demonstrates the skills required for entry-level network support positions the starting point for many successful careers in networking. The curriculum covers networking fundamentals, initial router configuration, LAN switching and Ethernet basics, VLAN deployment, subnetting, configuration and integration of IPv6 addressing, DHCP, NAT and basic device access security concepts. CCENT is a standalone entry level qualification. It is recommended as a pre-requisite to study the various CCNA specialisations including CCNA Routing and Switching, which covers medium size enterprise branch networks with more complex connections.
