The Pie in the Face event was just one of the events a couple of RMU clubs have organized. On March 5th, 2012, this club along with others sponsored an event at the local Potbelly s, located at the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Wabash Avenue, where from the hours of 4 P.M-7 P.M. Potbelly s donated 25% of their sales to Robert Morris University for the Make A Wish Foundation. The following Robert Morris University organizations: Legal Eagles, Cooks for a Cause, Sigma Beta Delta, Warriors to Scholars, Morris Women, and the Volunteer Club are the ones responsible for the events coordinated for the Make A Wish Foundation. With the past two events alone, not counting the sale of golden stars, these organizations have raised $100 with the Pie in the Face, and $288 for the Potbelly s event. Very good results considering that they just started implementing this idea in January of this year. The person responsible for this brilliant idea is Lashondra Graves, despite being turned down initially; she eventually found the support she needed in the Sigma Beta Delta Advisor, Barbara Jepsen, to execute her plan. After speaking with Lashondra Graves and Amber Photo Credit: Cooks for a Cause Make A Wish Foundation Mormann, the Chairman and Co-Chairman of the effort to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation, I found out the goal is to reach $5,000 by May of 2012. The reason these seven Robert Morris organizations have come together to fundraise money for Make A Wish is to adopt and help grant a wish for a child with a life threatening medical condition. Each one of these seven organizations is responsible for putting together at r WISH pg. 3 CHICAGO HOSTS WORLD EVENT By Ann Roche Chicago was poised to reach two milestones of national and global proportions this May. Chicagoans will still gain one more bragging right, becoming the first American city outside the nation s capital to host a NATO summit; but the second was abruptly canceled. The city was supposed to host both the annual G8 Conference and NATO Summit from May 18-21, which would have been the first time in over thirty years that two international events would be held simultaneously in the same city. On March 5, only 11 weeks before the events, the White House announced that the G8 Conference will be pulled from Chicago and relocated to Camp David. A press release stated that the President made the switch to Camp David, the secluded presidential retreat in rural Maryland, "to facilitate a free-flowing discussion with our close G-8 partners." NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is an alliance of twenty-eight member countries, whose purpose is to ensure strategic cooperative defense. The G8 is a forum for eight of the world's largest economies, which meets every year to discuss global economic policies. These meetings, especially G8 conferences, are often met with huge protests, which usually become violent and destructive. Many believe that the real reason for the Despite the struggling economy, Robert Morris University, an expanding school of higher education, is out-growing its home state of Illinois. RMU is planning on opening not just one, but two new campuses: one in Indiana and another here in Illinois, playing the role of a second main campus. Historically, Robert Morris has expanded our offerings to places that are more convenient to students, said RMU Provost, Mablene Krueger, about the university s decision to open two more campuses. As interest in RMU grows, some students currently enrolled live in Indiana and attend either the Chicago or Orland Park campuses. Expansion through growth in campuses has been our motto, explained Krueger. RMU is looking in the Indiana area because it makes sense based on proximity. For years, RMU has known they wanted to expand outside of Illinois; now the plans are really being drawn up. The administration has settled on a location near Merrillville, Indiana. RMU is currently in negotiations over several different pieces of property in the area for the Indiana campus. The new campus will only be offering Business degrees, and will not be opened for at least another three to five years. We hope that this campus will serve as a model for other out of state locations, Krueger commented on future expansion. RMU s Warriors to Scholars organization was created to show this gratitude by informing military veterans about all their available resources; including education, health, financial, and employment assistance. The organization s main priority is to assist veterans and their dependants with the transition to college life, with the overall goal of creating an outlet to discuss veteran issues. Like many great organizations, Warriors to Scholars arose from a simple conversation between students. James Flagg, who served in the U.S. Army and Army Guard for eight years, and Evelyn Alicea, who served in the U.S. National Guard for seven years, and others came together to discuss the problems that not only students as a whole have, but conflicts that present themselves to veterans of the U.S Armed Forces. After a myriad of gatherings, the club s founders put these efforts into action, and the club became an officially recognized q NATO pg. 1 switch from Chicago is the administration's lack of confidence in the city's preparedness to keep order amidst thousands of expected protestors. The government, however, denied that the switch had anything to do with Chicago's ability to maintain security. Many city officials were surprised and disappointed by the news. Mayor Emanuel had been greatly looking forward to the two conferences as opportunities to show Chicago as an international city. In a press statement, he wished the President and G8 leaders well and repeated the sentiment that he is proud "to showcase Chicago to the world and the world to Chicago." Mark Shields, President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Chicago's police union, heralded the decision, saying, "Nobody from the police department was really confident in the EDITOR S NOTE student organization in December 2011. So far, the club has been planning several events, including the Illinois Warrior Summit and Honor Flight, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and the anniversary of 9/11. They ve also assisted with Make a Wish Foundation fundraisers. At the Student Veteran s Empowerment Conference, Vice President Tony Frais gave a presentation on the importance of social media, and James Warriors to Scholars arose from a simple conversation between students Flagg spoke about club fundraising. President Evelyn Alicea was also in attendance, and invited people from the Troops to Teachers Program and the State Approving Agency to speak to the club about educational benefits. In addition to two strong advisers, James Flagg and Noemi Oyola, the Warriors to Scholars organization is equipped with an exceptional executive board, including Evelyn Alicea- President, Tony Frais-Vice President, Marcus Jefferies- Secretary, and Carlos Santiago Head of Social Media. They want to expand the club to all Robert Morris campuses, increase membership, including military dependents and faculty, and increase involvement in the community. The Warriors to Scholars organization opens its doors to new members and students in the benefits the organization provides. Several Chicago businesses owners, especially apartment and condo managers, had expressed concerns about potential damages and losses from protests and riots. Throughout the city, many preparations had been made to avoid inconvenience or threats posed by protestors. Columbia College moved the end of its spring semester up two weeks, and DePaul University planned to shut down its Loop campus from Friday to Monday because of "expected disruptions and traffic." The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Art Institute of Chicago have both decided to reschedule events. How will this affect the Robert Morris community? RMU has also made contingency plans for any largescale disturbances or emergencies that could arise that eventful weekend. The school has plans to keep the Chicago branch extra secure, including school databases. The first floor, with the bookstore and gallery, will be provided with extra security. Moving classes to another branch or using Blackboard for assignments are also options. But should Chicagoans breathe a sigh of relief that their city won't be swarming with protestors? Not quite. Many protest groups are still planning on demonstrating that weekend, and have celebrated the move to Camp David. They claim it's a sign of their power to influence change in the government, and that officials are scared of the strength of the movement. Occupy Chicago organizer Rachael Perrotta promised, "We will be so loud, they will hear us in Camp David." By Stacy Zamskaya Have you ever wanted to make a difference in someone s life? How about wanting to end injustices in our society? If so, then the Volunteer Club can help you accomplish just that. The Volunteer Club provides students the opportunity to help the community through various volunteering and charity events. Co-presidents Amber Mormann and Stacy Zamskaya have been busy planning events and recruiting students who are willing to help various organizations and groups in the Chicago area. One of the most recent plans includes organizing an event while partnering with other Robert Morris University organizations like, Cooks for a Cause, Morris Women, and Warriors to Scholars, as part of raising $5000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. All students are welcome to attend and help out this great cause. Other events include volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and organizing a Passport Sign Up for current RMU students. These events aim at both helping Chicago citizens, as well I am excited to be stepping into my new role as Editor-in-Chief and I wish Nicole Koskovich the best of luck in her future endeavors. In this new position I am responsible for overseeing the writing staff, proofreading and editing the final product before it goes to print, and recruiting. It is my hope that during my time as Editor-in-Chief, the Eagle staff can produce an award-winning paper. We have already started the process with a new design, full color, and an enormous amount of growth in the staff. I will also be incredibly proactive about increasing the number of readers and the popularity/success of the new website, RMUEagle.com. Hope to see you all reading the paper! MAKING A DIFFERENCE VOLUNTEER CLUB as the Robert Morris community. A big theme of the Volunteer Club is the idea that members are free to suggest their own ideas for projects. We are open to just about any ideas members bring to the table and we will try and incorporate them, Mormann states. If you are passionate about a certain cause or organization, you can help organize events for other members to explore this passion. Volunteering is something I think everyone needs to do. Helping others is very important to me and if I can add one smile to another face, then every minute I spent helping was worth it, Mormann describes. The presidents of this organization hope that the members will grow to love helping those in need and will make contributions to charity part of their everyday lives. ETHICS IN THE CLASSROOM By Richard Connolly One of the oldest and most widely disputed questions man has ever asked is how can I know what is right, and what is wrong? Ethics is a fundamental branch of philosophy that we all face throughout our everyday lives. From questioning the fairness of moving to a better vacant seat at a ballgame to pocketing a flash-drive left in a school computer; many of the choices we make can be questioned ethically. Robert Morris University s Chicago campus recently had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Catharyn Baird for an event entitled Can We Really Teach Ethics? Speaking to an auditorium full of faculty from RMU and surrounding institutes, Dr. Baird touched on a number of topics, such as the shrinking gap between personal and professional ethics today, and how priorities for people s ethical decisions differ throughout a lifetime. From first making decisions based purely on oneself (the me ), then to one s community (the we ), and finally upon more universal principles, Dr. Baird explained how age determines what factors influ- Photo Credit: Xhegis Aliu ence ethical choices. However, the ultimate question remains. Can the ethics be taught in a collegiate setting? In a time when most students are make decisions for themselves, primarily on how to fit into and function in their communities without being outcast (or worse), is it possible? Dr. Baird would argue that it certainly is. Just as a child learns what is right and wrong from their parents, students are influenced by what they learn from their professors. After extensive surveying and assessing how ethics is taught in most institutions, and more importantly how those instructors feel about it, Dr. Baird is confident that ethics should remain in the curriculums. Titanic Turns A look at the 100-year anniversary of the Ship of Dreams q EXPAND pg. 3 3 News 100 THE EAGLE By Bethany Meeker outdated maritime regulations were updated. The Radio Act of One hundred years ago on April 15, 1912 the RMS Titanic set forth on her ill-fated maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean; she was said to be the ship of dreams. God himself could not sink this ship, was exclaimed by an unknown crewmember to a boarding passenger on April 10, 1912 at Southampton, England. Most know the tragic tale of this luxury liner; however, what has happened since that fateful night? On April 18, 1912 the Carpathia arrived in New York City carrying the surviving passengers of the Titanic. When the ship came to port, there were approximately 40,000 people waiting anxiously to see if their loved ones had survived or were lost at sea as well as many reporters and journalists ready to get the story. A United States Senate committee began an inquiry on the wreck the day after the survivors arrived in New York; the British Board of Trade also conducted a formal investigation on the loss of the Titanic. After the horrific tragedy, many 1912 came into affect requiring that a communications operator be on duty at all times, means of direct communication between the wireless room and the bridge is to be established, and power sources are to be installed to insure that the wireless is working at all times. Due to the disaster of the Titanic, concerns for navigation among ice fields came forward. In response to these pressing concerns, the International Ice Patrol was formed in January of 1914. In the wake of the loss of the Titanic, revisions were made to the regulations concerning the lifeboats. Ships are now required to have enough lifeboats to hold all passengers and crew on board, lifeboat drills are conducted bimonthly by the crew, and passengers are assigned a lifeboat before boarding the vessel. After the wreck of the Titanic, people wanted to immediately begin searching for the lost vessel; however, in 1912 they did not have the technology to find the wreckage. They believed the vessel had sunk 4,000 miles under the ocean. During the 1970s, the technology and the ability to find the Titanic had come about. It wasn t until 1985 that the Titanic was found approximately two and a half miles beneath the North Atlantic Ocean by a team led by Dr. Robert Ballard and Jean Jarry. On August 10, 1998 a twenty ton section of Titanic s hull was raised to the surface by the RMS Titanic Inc. In commemoration of the centennial of the Titanic s sinking, many events are taking place in 2012. Titanic memorial cruises are being charted to take descen- MORRISWomen dants of the passengers onboard the Titanic and Titanic enthusiasts to the site of the sinking. They will be able to pay their respects during a memorial service, which will take place at the exact time the Titanic sank 100 years ago. James Cameron s film Titanic, starring Leonardo DeCaprio and Kate Winslet, will be making a second appearance in theatres on April 4, 2012 in 3D. Along with memorial cruises and the rerelease of movies, exhibits of the Titanic are cropping up across the country. Existing museums are planning event filled weekends to commemorate the Titanic. In Indian Orchard, Massachusetts the Titanic Museum will be hosting a three-day convention and a formal gala dinner serving cuisine from the Titanic s menu for first class passengers. Even though the sinking of the Titanic is an unforgettable disaster, many positives have arisen such as, the updated regulations regarding the safety of passengers and crew at sea. In the one hundred years following the wreck, many monumental events have occurred and will continue to occur. The ship itself was sinkable, but the tragic story of the Titanic has stayed afloat. By DeMarco White In this day in age, we are surrounded by multiple types of people, a majority of them being women. Sharing the same qualities as most men in business today, women have come a long way to stand on their own, educate themselves, and provide for themselves in addition to contributing works to society, An illustration of such a woman is Robert Morris s own, Nina Rodriguez. Nina Rodriguez, a current student at the Robert Morris Graduate School of Management. Being a student here at Robert Morris, Ms. Rodriguez has knowledge of several clubs that offer benefits and creative outlooks for its members and students. To her dismay she noticed that there were not any clubs that solely focused on women, in terms of realistically training them for the world outside of Robert Morris University. I always wondered why we had a Morris Men s club but never a Morris Women s club say Rodriguez. With knowledge of the fact that there are a myriad of educated women but not enough in higher up positions due to the lack of mentoring and opportunities, Rodriguez would soon find a way to build awareness. Taking on the Entrepreneurship Incubator Icenter project lead by Jacob Elsterm, Rodriguez saw this as a great opportunity to take this proposed idea, outline the steps and turn it into a reality. With the Dean of the Icenter on board, Nina and a team of other participated students began working on what would be known as one of the most hardworking, creative projects that the Icenter has ever seen to date. As the project s completion came near, a business proposal was soon drafted. With the support of the faculty, a proposal that consisted of the club s purpose, which included acknowledging the needs of women such as mentoring and skills to succeed, soon turned into what is now known as Morris Women Often confused with the Robert Morris s University Women club, the Morris Women s club has a slightly different purpose. The main purpose is to build up women, meaning to realistically prepare them for the world outside of Robert Morris, as well as prepare them for life in corporate America. We want to build a strong a network with people of all backgrounds and of all careers say Nina Rodriguez, current Morris Women President. In addition to their efforts to gain more membership with their participation in the Get Involved fair hosted by the Office of Student Affairs, the Morris Women s clubs along with their advisor Jennifer Kaminski are currently reviewing interested applicants applications as well as building interest throughout the halls of Robert Morris University. Mentor, Support, Achieve, is the implemented motto behind the Morris Women s club. With the intentions of expanding this club to the other campuses of Robert Morris as well as creating more benefits for its members, the Morris Women s club plans on sticking around as they amplify their voice. This plan is much further in the future than the Merrillville campus and an exact location has not been decided, but Illinois is the most likely candidate. The idea of a second main campus can be very confusing at times, and what we mean by that term is a campus with a collegiate environment...it will have a variety of program offerings, like the Chicago campus, Krueger explains. The campus would provide current student services which are featured in Chicago and If I can add one smile to another face, then every minute I spent helping was worth it would hopefully include several athletic facilities owned by RMU. In terms of student recruitment to this campus, Krueger comments, A second main campus will have a strong appeal to students right out of high school, not necessarily just students from Photo Credit: RMU Facebook our current branch campuses. With a second location, Krueger believes a new culture shift will occur within Robert Morris, and the university will have to create new innovative solutions to many future conflicts. Being the Experience University, these new campuses will not only expand student opportunity, but provide an overall shift to reaching more of the country. These organizations are working very hard and diligently to reach this goal and help place a smile on a child s face, who may only have possibly weeks or months left to live. If anyone is interested in helping this cause or participating in the fundraising, the club presidents of the organizations mentioned before are selling stars for $1 each. There are two stars that come with the purchase, a big star and a small star. The big one goes the purchaser and the smaller one is collected by the club presidents, and is then placed on a five foot by three-foot wide pole to be displayed in the Student Center on the seventh floor. As of now, the organizations are currently working on a bingo competition in the Student Center for anyone who is interested, as well as continuing the sale of stars throughout this process. By Joseph Looney In response to the students request, Nick Jarmuz and his colleagues at the Chicago Student Center are inputting a system that will allow students to use credit and debit cards for purchases made at the Eagle Landing Café. Jarmuz who is the Director of Food Service operations oversees all food service establishments at the University including the Eagle Landing Café, Eyrie Restaurant and other culinary facilities at Robert Morris University. Jarmuz stated that, Students often don t carry cash and this will allow them to more easily enjoy the Café s offerings. The system will work just like purchases that are made at McDonalds, Panda Express, and other favorite food locations. For purchases $10 or less a signature will not be required; it will keep the line moving quickly so students can get their favorite snack, and move on to class. For students who have questions about card preference and availability the Eagle Landing Café will be accepting Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover cards for use when purchasing items. Although most students don t prefer to use cash, the ATM located between the Café and the Office of student affairs will still be available for students to use. So for the first time ever, starting the first week of April, Robert Morris University s Students, Staff, and Faculty members will now be able to purchase their favorite foods with the swipe of card.

Wisma intends to bring healthier food to the 7th floor Student Center. She believes students daily schedules impede them from successfully acquiring a nutritious meal, so she is working with a company named Wisma to provide the university with affordable, organic, and nutritious food. Wisma is a company that promotes itself for Wisma uses are reclaimed, recycled and reusable. According to Wisma s website, all of the items in Wisma s menu support local farmers; therefore, all ingredients picked are those in season and contain no preservatives and are not frozen, except for the ice cream of course. to do the same but for a more mature consumer. Over sixty million U.S. adults, ages twenty and older, are considered obese. DiBella believes Wisma has the power to change that one school at a time. If successfully integrated into RMU s Chicago campus, drinks and Sysco products already offered selling local organic food at affordable Wisma, which means at the Student Center will be prices and packaging it in recycled materials as well. According to DiBella The key to selling this to students and staff is the fact that almost everything is under 500 calories, it tastes great, it s fresh, and it s affordable. DiBella wants to increase student awareness on healthy eating. Consuming nachos every day, in between classes, has negative consequences to a student s health, she states. DiBella points out that the food produced by Wisma is not home is a company founded by Chef John des Rosiers with the purpose of offering a nutritious alternative for the busy lifestyle of the typical American. The food at Wisma is already prepared and packaged to take home or eat it on the go. The menu is varied and consists of sandwiches, salads and other snacks, as well as desserts. Chef Rosiers calls his initiative for healthy eating and drinking, cuisine for your castle. Recently Michelle Obama condensed into one of the double door coolers, while the other cooler will store all of the Wisma products. Students are still going to have a choice between the healthy and not so healthy meals but, Changing the way college students eat one school at a time, is DiBella s goal. Not only is she trying to implement a healthier lifestyle at Robert Morris, but also wants to create a movement that expands to other universities. From Romulus, Michigan she first learned how to play basketball from the boys around the neighborhood ten years ago. Christina, who is in her last quarter here at Robert Morris University, is now finishing her second bachelor s degree, the first being in business management, and this one is in accounting. Christina sees herself as someone who is good at building relationships with people and as someone who leads by example. Christina has hopes of becoming a manager within the next two years or to continue to play basketball if given the opportunity; Christina would rather play semipro or overseas for. Christina idols are Allen Iverson, Rajon Rondo, her Grandma, Mom and Dad. She went into every game in her career with the philosophy to lace up her shoes and to play every game like it was her last. Christina had a sister relationship with her teammates, one in which there were ups and downs, however, they were always on the same page during game time. Christina has matured a lot since freshmen year and a couple of the things that she has improved on were she now has her priorities right and she improved on time management. Along with many other awards throughout her career Christina was named to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) this year along with teammate Sarah Rogers. She also led the team with 180 assists this year. Christina would like to leave her teammates by saying, Follow your dreams and when someone says you can t accomplish something take that as motivation and keep pushing towards your goals. John Lennon Artist you should know EMILIO ROJAS By Joe Looney What do you get when you mix Drake and Eminem into one big Venezuelan American beverage? If you don t guess the name Emilio Rojas then you might want to consider what you are drinking. Emilio Rojas born in Rochester, New York is quickly making a name for himself in the music industry. With the help of his most recent mix tape Breaking Point Rojas plans to take the hip-hop world by storm. Breaking Point features songs of love, heartbreak, childhood struggles and Rojas s thoughts on his latest success. If you have ever heard Emilio Rojas rap, you immediately recognize that Eminem type of rhyme scheme and emotion in his voice and lyrics. Most notably on the opening verse of the song Breaking Point ; which is titled after the mix tape in which he raps My Mama didn t want me to buy rap, now I rap and send her show fliers, I m asking her how she like that. My whole life s been spent on committing spite acts. Despite his gritty hip hop lyrics Emilio is also known for his soft soothing voice as well. He regularly switches between the two styles in a manner similar to notable Canadian rapper Drake. Balancing these two unique styles is truly what makes Emilio Rojas an extraordinary artist. Aside from the Drake and Eminem comparisons, Rojas has his own style that makes him different from any other artist. This difference in style helps him relate to fans of all ethnicities. The majority of his extremely deep songs deal with today s acts of immigration and racism towards Latin Americans. In the song Spic Emilio talks about how in school he and other Latin American kids were mistreated. Emilio is truly at his best when he raps this topic of songs as you can feel the heart and emotion he puts into his work. FOOTLOOSE Remake of the Classic Now on DVD By Kimberly Martinez Most audiences enjoy watching dance films due to the variety of choreography in them, maybe more than the plot, like Step Up. However, since a movie tells a story, the plot in dance films must keep the audiences engaged in order for them to continue being interested in watching the short dance routines throughout the film. The 2011 version of Footloose by Craig Brewer did contain very fun and energetic dance moves, but the storyline of the film was a bit distracting. One of the reasons being is that the characters of Ren Mc- Cormack and Arien Moore played by the 2011 actors, Kevin Wormald and Julianne Hough, did not fit them at all. Kevin Wormald seemed uncomfortable with his character throughout the film and it felt like he was reading his lines off a teleprompter more than half of the time. His overacting really affected his performance and as for the harsh Boston accent Kevin Wormald kept attempting became too frustrating to even want to pay attention to anything else. The same would go for the Julianne Hough; the actress look did not fit the 1984 look of Lori Singer. One would think that because Footloose is a remake the actors for the characters would be almost identical to the 1984 actors, but that seems to have been what was missing. The plot for example was pretty much the same as the 1984 version, but the famous Footloose song, although a bit altered, did not fit the new version of the movie or the new and improved characters. Props go to director, Craig Brewer, for including new and exciting dance moves and keeping the original prom night dance in the remake; the prom night dance is the highlight of both films. The 2011 Footloose is a fun movie to watch in general. There is Ariel, the rebellious preacher s daughter, not surprised yet? Here it goes, she falls for a very attractive outof-town guy, Ren, and they both decide to test the city of Bomont s law that bans dancing. Sound familiar? Ren finds consolation in Ariel due to the loss of his mother, and Ariel finds solace in Ren due to the loss of her brother in a car accident, which resulted in the banning of dancing in the small town. It is certain that this storyline sounds very familiar and that many may recall such movies with similar plots. Now that s the problem, dance films can be so much fun to watch, but it gets pretty dreadful and frustrating to watch once the same plot keeps getting repeated over and over again. Older films, like Grease and even the 1984 version of Footloose had their own unique style to it, the music, the clothes, the actors, everything fit. Arts & Culture THE EAGLE new to FILM 7 Dr. Suess The Lorax Photo Credit: Universal Pictures By Blake M. Whitmore I went into the theater with my large Coke and popcorn apprehensive. After being disappointed by Dr. Suess The Cat in the Hat (2003) and Horton Hears a Who! (2008), I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my favorite childhood books brought to life so well and exciting for the child in all of us. When the movie first opened with a song I was a little concerned that the film was going to be aimed only at younger children, but as the heart-warming story went on, the creators of Despicable Me (2010) proved once again that they could balance the cheesy aspects of the film with well written lyrics that had a deeper meaning and touching message. The story follows young Ted (Zack Efron) and his pursuit of finding a tree for his crush Audrey (Taylor Swift). She is enamored by their beauty and only wishes to see a real live tree growing out of the ground. Hoping to win her affection Ted seeks knowledge of where to get one from his very clever and funny Grammy, Norma (Betty White). Grammy Norma tells Ted to bring a few objects to the Once-ler (Ed Helms) outside of town and he will tell Ted how to acquire a tree. The Once-ler tells Ted the tale of the Lorax (Danny DeVito) who speaks for the trees. The Once-ler expresses his regret in not taking the Lorax s advice. Though against the orders of the town s big business man Mr. O Hare (Rob Riggle), Ted continues with all his effort to bring back nature and a live tree to there plastic town of Thneedville. Even though the film was entertaining and visually pleasing on the surface it clearly had the important and strong message about wastefulness and the environment that Dr. Seuss had always intended. The only complaint I have about the film is that it was adapted from a twelve-page book, which simply does not lend enough meat or storyline for an hour and half long film. Danny DeVito (Always Sunny in Philadelphia) surprisingly played the role of the Lorax well being both entertaining and still teaching the viewer the hard truth about being wasteful. Ed Helms (The Office, The Hangover) showed off his pipes singing How Bad Can I Be? One of the best songs in the film, it brings to light the awful and nasty truth about big business s only caring about one thing. Money. Overall, I would give the film 4 out of 5 stars. It was by far one of the best Dr. Seuss films. It taught viewers the importance about conserving our environment. It only lacked a little in the storyline but still was a touching and adorable tale. After all, how much more can you ask of a children s book? Cuisine 8 THE EAGLE Cuisine PJ Clarke s A Refined Classic By Lindsay Dahl Streeterville may be a well-known modern area, but PJ Clarke s located at 302 East Illinois Ave, is a reminder of simpler times. It has a very classic look and feel but the food consists of a nice variety at a decent price. With everything from BLT sandwiches to excellent steaks, and everything in between, PJ s has something for everyone. Although it is a Bar and Grill the food is far beyond the simple offerings of others. Dinner items at PJ s range in price from $10-$30 a plate giving diners the freedom to spend as much or as little as they want. The steaks come with the option to add a crust, They allow customers to relax and enjoy their meal without feeling any pressure to leave at any time. The sandwiches and burgers come with the option to choose from a variety of fries or onion rings. The portion sizes are perfect, making boxes unnecessary, whether that s good or bad is debatable but it is nice to be presented with a reasonable serving that could actually be finished in one serving. At PJ s they know what they are doing, including bartending, from Irish coffee to pear martinis, it is all done right. They also can make most drinks upon request and have a wide variety of beer, wine, and hard liquors. Not only does the bartender do a great job but so does the rest of the staff. The servers are not pushy and allow customers to take their time choosing menu items and eating. They are great about not interrupting a conversation or walking up while everyone is chewing. The wait staff is also well educated about the ingredients in the food and drink items. They allow customers to relax and enjoy their meal without feeling any pressure to leave at any time. PJ s is a very comfortable place and resembles a classic upscale restaurant, where semi-casual attire is appropriate. It is reminiscent of a classic Italian restaurant with tile floors, checkered tablecloths, and wood paneled walls, without the Italian food. Located so closely to downtown Chicago it is a great place to go to start a night on the town. PJ Clarke s Bar and Grill is an excellent place to visit for dinner or a quick drink on the way home. The best way to save money, if going for dinner, is to avoid the cocktails and hard liquors. The times to go are a bit earlier to avoid the rush but the staff and ambiance will make it hardly noticeable that it gets very busy in the evening. Overall, PJ Clarke s is an amazing spot to for those who like classic American comfort foods. Just because a religious teaching is not popular or universally followed does not negate its... Call me crazy, but I don t think paying for people to have sex is one of my duties as a citizen. protections under the U.S. Constitution. This has nothing to do with women s rights; nobody is stopping women from using contraception just because it s not free. Do not be fooled by the administration s so-called accommodation; that Catholic employers won t have to pay direct fees for the contraceptives. They still must be part of the health insurance plans. Are insurance companies going to make a big donation and write the cost off? Hell no! They ll just increase the cost of premiums to cover it. Forcing people to pay for things that explicitly go against their religion is morally repugnant. All of us, church-goers or not, must stand together and refuse to comply with this tremendous government overreach, while we still have some freedoms left.

For a while now I ve been noticing a lot of ladies of color rocking their natural hair texture and looking pretty great, if I may say so myself. After years of using hair crack, super strength relaxer, I ve come to the decision to ease my use of harsh chemicals and straightening aids like flat irons, and curlers. That s not even mentioning how relaxer can cause the hair to fall out if used improperly. I even found out that the scalp can eventually consistently look like it has chemical burn even if your hair hasn t been relaxed for an extended amount of time. A woman never thinks about the long term effects of something repeatedly being put on there scalp, because even if you re just straightening new growth it still ends up coating the scalp, which must experience some changes after so much exposure. Not only have the effects of chemicals caused me to want to change the way I handle my hair, but also the way I handle people. Having chemical damaged hair for so long has encouraged me to wanting a new look. I have family that has made the big chop, which is cutting the processed hair off down to your new growth. My fellow culinary classmate, Shetara Sawyer, who s been natural for two years, has also helped me by giving me advice to help me through my transition, which involves growing out your natural hair without doing the big chop. When receiving a tax refund, a great way to keep money, but still get a little shopping done, is to set aside a specific amount for spending and saving. When dealing with savings the best method is the out of sight, out of mind technique, forget it s even there because after withdrawing funds once, a fast-paced downward spiral starts for the savings. To make one s savings hard to reach open accounts with banks like ING Direct, where there s no physical facility conveniently located and takes days for money to be transferred. Another tool available to help with budgeting attempts are websites like Mint.com; spending trends are shown, one is able to connect both their bank account and Mint account, budget amounts can be set for different categories, and reminders are emailed letting the person know they are getting close to going over budget.
