Welcome to the University Library - we have a lot to offer University staff. PROFESSOR FROM THE SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES YOUR STAFF CARD IS ALSO YOUR LIBRARY CARD Once you have your staff card you can start borrowing books and other items straight away. You need your card to get into the building and to borrow books. Just swipe your card on the turnstiles at the entrance to get into the Library. Log-in into your library account for a range of services such as renewing your books and requesting items on loan to another person or not available at this Library. Look for the Your Library Account link on the Library homepage www.glasgow.ac.uk/library OPENING HOURS We re open from 07:15 until 02:00, 361 days of the year. HELP AND SUPPORT IN YOUR SUBJECT AREA College Librarians can advise on the resources available for your subject and how to use them effectively. They can also provide information skills sessions for your students. For more details, see the Subjects & Support section on the Library home page www.glasgow.ac.uk/library. ReadingLists@glasgow ensures teaching resources are accessible and available for your students, with easy access to e-resources as well as availability and location of physical stock in the Library. To sign up email: library-readinglists@glasgow.ac.uk HIGH DEMAND BOOKS The High Demand Collection is located on Level 3, and contains books popular books, such as those on reading lists. Students can borrow from this collection for 24 hours or 4 hours. TAKE A TOUR We offer guided tours every week throughout the year. These are a great way to find your way around the Library and to get the information you need from an experienced member of staff. Ask Library Services staff, or check the Library homepages, for links to booking a tour online.

FINDING BOOKS AND JOURNALS To find books, e-books, journals and databases, use QuickSearch on the Library homepage. Type in keywords or the title of the book or journal and results will appear on the screen. If you are looking for articles on a subject, click on the Articles tab on the home page and once again type in keywords. If you know the title of the article you are looking for, type it in. BORROWING AND RETURNING BOOKS To borrow, renew and return books, use the self-service machines in the Library. Staff at Library Services can help you with any enquiries you have. Staff can borrow up to 500 items at any one time, and books from the main collection can be borrowed for up to 12 weeks. USING E-RESOURCES Most of our e-resources are available both on and off campus by using your GUID (Glasgow Unique Identifier). It is also used to access services such as MyGlasgow, webmail, and Moodle. PRINTING You can scan, print and photocopy throughout the Library on every floor that has computers on them. Swipe your staff card over the Pull Print logo on the machines, and then select either Print, Scan or Copy. You need to purchase print credits before you can print. Log into MyGlasgow to buy print credits online. COMPUTING IN THE LIBRARY There is Wi-Fi throughout the building. We recommend you use eduroam: www.glasgow.ac.uk/services/it/eduroam on your laptop or mobile device. PCs in the Library are set up for student use. RESEARCH ROOMS Desks in research rooms in the Library can be booked at Library Services on Level 2 or by email: library@lib.gla.ac.uk. These can also be booked by, or for, visiting academics. MAPS, OFFICIAL PUBLICATIONS & STATISTICS UNIT There s a Maps, Official Publications & Statistics Unit on Level 7. This is the place to go for government documents, EU information and maps. Staff at the MOPS enquiry desk can give you help and advice. OTHER LIBRARIES Apart from the University Library, there s the Adam Smith Library for social sciences in the Adam Smith Building; Chemistry Library in the Joseph Black Building; James Herriot Library for Veterinary Medicine at Garscube; James Ireland Library for Dentistry in the Dental School on Sauchiehall Street; the Library Research Annexe at Saracen Street and the University Archives - www.glasgow.ac.uk/services/archives LIBRARY CAFÉ AND SOCIAL SPACE On Level 3 there s a social space and the Food in Focus café which is open during semester. Snacks are also available from vending machines near the LoungeLab as well as the Rest and Be Thoughtful area on Level 4. COLLECTIONS The Library s collections cover most branches of the arts, sciences, social sciences and medicine. They are complemented by the rare books, manuscripts and early photographs in our special collections department: www.glasgow.ac.uk/services/specialcollections. Our Archive Services hold records documenting the history of the University since 1451 and history of Scottish businesses since the late 1700s: www.glasgow.ac.uk/services/archives.
