Forum 1D: Data Center Track Casey L. Quillin Sr. Analyst, Dell Oro Group casey@delloro.com 1

Virtualization: Has been described as a paradigm shift Has been called the data center s killer app Can drastically reduce TCO while increasing efficiencies Is a required part of the path to the cloud Has revolutionized application delivery 2

Virtualization has also: Created new complexities I/O performance & I/O virtualization VM to VM communication & security Integration of legacy equipment & applications Created areas of new innovation Network virtualization Network programmability and orchestration 3

Paper Presenters: Ethernet Virtualization Advances in I/O Virtualization Shawn Fitzgerald, Sr. Content Development Manager, QLogic VXLANs in Data Center Design Kulin Shah, Product Manager, Arista Networks IP Transport Protocols and VMs Stan McClellan, Chief Architect of Systems & Solutions, ZNYX Networks The Cloud-Ready, Virtualization-Aware Network Rakesh Saha, Director of Product Management for System Networking in the Systems & Technology Group, IBM 4

Advances in I/O Virtualization - Shawn Fitzgerald Shawn Fitzgerald is currently the Senior Content Development Manager for QLogic Corporation. Fitzgerald is a 20+ year veteran of the networking industry, with a wealth of experience in Sales Engineering, Product Marketing and Technical Marketing. Prior to QLogic Corporation, he worked in various capacities including Manager, Technical Marketing at Cisco Systems and as Director, Sales Engineering for FORE Systems (now Ericsson). Shawn has a bachelor s degree in Computer Science from California State University, Fullerton and when he isn t watching his kids high school volleyball and baseball games, he enjoys playing beach volleyball and surfing. 5

VXLANs in Data Center Design - Kulin Shah Part of the Product Management team at Arista Networks, Kulin Shah is responsible for product and solutions marketing, communications, and the eco-system partner alliances of Arista Networks focusing primarily on Software Defined Networking (SDN). Prior to joining Arista, Kulin was on the Customer Engineering and Technical Marketing teams with multiple Switching and Routing BUs within Cisco Systems. 6

IP Transport Protocols and VMs - Stan McClellan Stan McClellan is the Chief Architect of Systems & Solutions at ZNYX Networks. He is responsible for the architectural definition of systems based on strategic technologies and industry standards. He is also an Associate Director of the School of Engineering at Texas State University, where he is responsible for the architecture, specification, deployment, and testing of a large private cloud for use in administrative, academic, and research purposes. As the author of many peer-reviewed technical publications and US/international patents, Dr. McClellan is an expert in networking and distributed system optimization, particularly for cloud-based or virtualized implementations with quality of service constraints (QoS). 7

The Cloud-Ready, Virtualization-Aware Network - Rakesh Saha Rakesh Saha is Director of Product Management for System Networking at IBM. He heads product management for advanced networking technologies, leading the IBM team in SDN (softwaredefined networking), including IBM s first OpenFlow product, as well as network virtualization, cloud networking, and data center convergence products. Active in the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), he is a regular speaker on SDN and OpenFlow, and has patents awarded and pending in system networking and virtualization. He has over 15 years experience in product management, research, design, and development of networks and systems. He has prior experience with Blade Network Technologies (acquired by IBM) and Hewlett-Packard. 8
