3700 students >20% growth Event in the main train station in Zurich 800 participants from all over Europe March 29 2012 Main Station Zurich Young Enterprise Switzerland Annual Report 2010/2011 Summary of activities 2010/2011 In the last three years Young Enterprise Switzerland (YES) was able to increase the number of its activities substantially. The number of students participating in one of the YES programmes increased by over 20 per cent compared to the last school year reaching over 3 700 students in total. 140 volunteers, 167 classes in the volunteering programmes and over 100 mini-companies in the Company and Business programme underline this impressive growth. Motivated by this development YES initiated a new event, reaching for public awareness by offering its young entrepreneurs a unique platform: the main train station in Zurich. The generous support of UBS, KPMG and SBB RailCity Zurich enabled YES to realize this event. 50 mini-companies from all over Switzerland presented their enterprises enthusiastically. The panel discussion including Beat W. Zemp (president LCH) as well as Christa Markwalder (president of the philanthropic group of the parliament) complemented the official year of volunteering 2011 perfectly. In the following evening event YES presented itself to a broad public, the key note speech was held by Martin Naville (CEO amcham). Preview: : European Trade Fair 2012 in Zurich Young Enterprise Switzerland (YES) is very proud to host the JA-YE Europe Trade Fair in March 2012. We are looking forward to welcome more than 800 official participants including 600 students, 90 teachers, 100 JA-YE CEOs and staff, 40 European board members as well as further representatives from business, education and politics to a unique get together in Zurich. Meet inspiring young business talents in the grand hall of SBB RailCity in the main station in Zurich. Don t forget to mark your calendars for March 29, 2012! P a g e 2 Organisational Report 3 708 students > 20% growth Trade Fair in Zurich Main Station 50 minicompanies Panel discussion Evening event Europe Trade Fair 2012 in Zurich Growing Continuously: over 3 700 students In 2010/11 the number of students participating in one of the YES programmes increased further and reached over 3 700 students. The activities therefore expanded by over 20 per cent compared to the past school year 2009/2010. Going Public: Young Entrepreneurs E in the Station 2011 For the last two years, the organization Young Enterprise Switzerland (YES) grew substantially. Therefore, in 2011 the time was right to gain public awareness. YES decided to launch a new event called Young Entrepreneurs in the Station. This platform was ideal to inform a broad public and the stakeholders of YES about business and entrepreneurial education. Additionally, this event was a unique opportunity for mini-companies to present their business ideas and to sell numerous products. The main station in Zurich, where hundreds of thousands of people, consisting of businessmen, politicians as well as tourists pass by each day, was the perfect location. The generous support of UBS, KPMG and SBB RailCity Zurich enabled YES to realize this event. Young Entrepreneurs in the Station contained the following activities: - Trade fair: 50 mini-companies from all over Switzerland presented their student company and profited from the unique selling opportunity. - Panel discussion: YES organized a round table, where representatives of the business, educational and political sector discussed the chances and risks of corporate volunteering in education. - Evening event: During Young Entrepreneurs on Stage YES had the opportunity to present the organization to invited guests. Highlight: JA-YE Europe Trade Fair March 28-30, 2012 Young Entrepreneurs in the Station was the rehearsal for another upcoming event. YES is very proud to host the official JA-YE Europe Trade Fair in March 2012. The Europe Trade Fair has a long tradition of bringing together minicompanies from all over Europe. It is a unique selling opportunity for the students as well as platform to meet peers who share similar interests and goals. YES is looking forward to an unforgettable event and inspiring moments with young talents and representatives of business, education and politics! P a g e 3 Company Programme Over 100 minicompanies Interaction with peers 5 new schools Suisse Romande Rollout-strategy Infoclick.ch HEG-FR Local offices: Fribourg and St Gallen Pure men team Most Innovative Product Award Fedex Global Access Award More Students and New Schools For the first time in the history of Young Enterprise Switzerland over 100 minicompanies participated in the Company and Business Programme. A development that indicates the increasing popularity and importance of entrepreneurial education. The students and teachers especially value the possibility of interacting with their peers from other schools and regions of Switzerland. Another meaningful and important signal is the number of participating schools. Five new schools initiated the Company Programme at their school in the school year 2010/2011. The activities of schools is particularly essential in regions where YES is not yet well-known and established. New schools motivate YES to keep expanding its programmes also in uncovered regions such as the Suisse Romande. With both Fribourg and Biel already being active bilingually, feedback helps to adapt the programme material to the regional needs. Regional Offices O in Fribourg F and St Gallen In 2010/2011 further steps of the rollout-strategy were implemented. Thanks to our partnerships with infoclick.ch and the School of Business Administration of Fribourg, YES was able to pilot two regional offices in St Gallen and Fribourg. The main advantage of the local offices is the decreasing distance between the YES Programme Manager and the teachers and students. Therefore the support is more intense and more personal. This was very much appreciated by the students and teachers. National Company of the Year 2011: backbord backbord was the first pure men team to win the National Competition. The eight talented young business men also convinced the European jury and won the Most Innovative Product Award at the JA-YE European Trade Fair in Bratislava. The team was rewarded for their excellent business idea. backbord produces bags and pencil cases made out of used sailing material. At the JA- YE European Competition backbord finally was also able to win the Fedex Global Access Award for the global potential of their business. The success of backbord once again shows the high quality of the Swiss mini-entrepreneurs. The YES team is already looking forward to welcome the new entrepreneurs. P a g e 4 Volunteering Programmes Round Table Corporate Volunteering Schools 87 classes 76 volunteers 80 classes 64 volunteers Volunteering in Schools Raising Awareness A in the Year of Volunteering V The event Entrepreneurs in the station 2011 was a unique occasion to raise the awareness of volunteering in education. A very interesting discussion on opportunities and risks of voluntary activities in schools was held by the participants Beat Zemp (President of the teachers association Switzerland), Christa Markwalder (President of the philanthropic group of the parliament), Manuela Pauli (UBS Community Affairs Switzerland), Benjamin Stengl (Volunteer) and Nicole Heim (CEO YES) moderated by Andreas Hugi (Hugi.Furrer&Partner). Our Community In the 2010/11 academic year, the new material of Our Community in German was finalised and piloted. The feedback of the students and teachers was very motivating and helpful. In 2010/11, 87 classes and 76 volunteers participated in the Our Community programme. Under the lead of Fida Kawkabani 67 classes were completed in the Suisse Romande, which YES is very proud of. In the German speaking part of Switzerland the activities are gaining a lot of interest and we hope to expand further with the newly adapted material. Economics for Success The number of classes participating in the Economics for Success programme in the greater areas of Basel and Zurich are increasing substantially. This academic year 80 classes and 64 volunteers were involved in the programme. In 2011/12, YES will develop the programme material in close collaboration with volunteers and teachers, so that we can address the individual needs of the schools even better. Thanks to new partnerships and loyal volunteers, YES will also focus on contacting new schools to further expand its activities. The YES Team thanks all the 140 volunteers and 167 teachers that once again inspired and shared this unique experience with their students. We are looking forward to collaborating with you again in this coming school year.
