SUBJECT: Information Technology Disaster Recovery Plan The Circumstances The Louisiana Delta Community College Disaster Recovery plan will be invoked after an incident which has impaired or disabled the use of workstations, servers or networks managed by Louisiana Delta Community College Management Information System and Information Technology. This plan will be put into effect when directed by the Chief Information Officer. Levels of Recovery There are two different recovery processes based on the disaster and damage that might have occurred. Partial recovery partial data recovery such as single or a few files or folders, email accounts, data sources and website contents. Full recovery complete recovery of student database, staff email, network file storage and web site contents. Data Back Up Items The Louisiana Delta Community College Management Information System and Information Technology department uses the Symantec Backup Exec backup system (http://www.symantec.com) with Dell Power Vault 124T LTO3 auto loader tape backup system (http://www.dell.com) to back up the following items: The Louisiana Delta Community College Student SQL Server databases. The LaDelta.edu website, it s contents including all the sub pages such as student activity pages and student club pages ( http://www.ladelta.edu ) The My.LaDelta.edu LDAP server for the student email system. The Intranet.LaDelta.edu website and its contents which serves as the Intranet for Louisiana Delta Community College. This site includes the Student Information system which is the user-interface for the Louisiana Delta Community College Student database The Louisiana Delta Community College Microsoft Exchange email system which serves all the Louisiana Delta Community College staff and full time faculty emails. The Louisiana Delta Community College Network Storage data contents which includes work documents. The Louisiana Delta Community College financial files such as Quick Books backup files and Microsoft Excel files Backup Procedure Full backups are performed weekly on Friday beginning at 9 pm. Differential backups (files that have changed since the last full backup) are performed Monday through Thursday beginning at 9 pm. The back up procedure is done by combination of the Symantec Backup Exec for all of the server back ups and network files, Symantec Backup Exec Exchange Agent for the Staff Exchange server and Symantec Backup Exec Open File Agent for SQL Server databases. Every Friday the MIS/IT Department will place weekly full back up tapes at offsite storage, which is secure and environmentally controlled. The three most recent weekly sets will be stored in this location. Any individual s work related data should be stored on a user s network drive (commonly called X drives) which will be backed up according to the backup procedure. Recovery Procedure In case of a disaster the MIS/IT department will implement the recovery procedure tasks applicable to that event. Operations Recovery Tasks include: Coordinating hardware and software replacement (ex. PeopleSoft, Windows, and Office) with the hardware and software vendors Retrieval of back up media and work documents which were placed on network storage drives (example X drives ) Coordinating recovery of network communication Server System Recovery The Server System includes all the Louisiana Delta Community College servers, student database, all the websites that are hosted by LDCC web servers, web site contents and network storage which includes staff, and faculty work document folder Page 2 of 5
data; server based academic program data and contents and other institutional and research data that might be placed on shared server based network drives. Tasks includes: Obtain approval for expenditure of funds to replace or add equipment as needed Coordinating software replacement with software vendors Reestablish network infrastructure and communication to Internet and Local Area Network Coordinating recovery of network storage data, student database, web site and web site contents from offsite back up tapes Reinstating server configurations and network equipment profiles The Library and other Grant Funded System The Louisiana Delta Community College library and other grant funded system s recovery plan will be followed according to each grants rules and regulations.
