OPERATING SYSTEMS DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS MOUNTING REQUIREMENTS CORDLESS A semi-automated option with an adjustable rate of speed, the Cordless system raises and lowers the shade to the desired height with a slight tug on the bottom rail. MOTORIZED SHADE Our motorization system allows you to easily and conveniently close or open shades all with the touch of a button all while offering enhanced child and pet safety. POWERWAND Powerwand is a battery operated, motorized system that is easily installed and operated. Powerwand s touch button control is a easy to use cord free option. STANDARD CLUTCH A continuous chain mechanism is used for easy control that locks the shade at desired height. This option requires less force to lift heavy shades and ensures smooth operation. CASSETTES & FASCIAS Our cassette and fascia options are the perfect choice for a clean, polished look. CASSETTE A traditional option, the cassette is rounded and covers the roller and brackets for a clean, coordinated look. An optional fabric insert offers even more design control. FASCIA Offering simple, clean lines for a more sophisticated look, the fascia is a square aluminum fascia that covers the roller and brackets. LIGHT CONTROL Our fabrics allow varying degrees of light into your room, depending on the pattern you choose. Some sheer and screen fabrics allow full light access to your room during the day while blackout pattern options keep your room dark and block most of the outside light. Consider desired opacity level when choosing your fabric. SHEER/SCREEN Gently filters light and reduces glare FABRIC ORIENTATION The fabrics used to make roller shades are of a limited width (see individual price guides). STANDARD ORIENTATION Shades that are ordered within the maximum width of the fabric will be made with the fabric vertically oriented. TURNED FOR HEIGHT Shades that are ordered wider than the maximum fabric width available will be made with the fabric turned width for height - horizontally oriented. LARGE SHADES Shades ordered larger than the maximum fabric width will be made with a visible seam. This only applies to fabrics that can be turned width for height (railroaded). MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS BASIC GUIDELINES Measuring for Roller Shades is similar to measuring for most window coverings. Follow these basic guidelines to ensure a smooth installation: INSIDE MOUNT A A B Always use a steel tape measure, preferably 3 4 to 1 wide. Measure width first, then height. B C C Measure each window separately, even if they appear to be the same size. Survey the window area carefully and make additional measurements, if necessary and record your measurements on a worksheet. INSIDE OR How you take your measurements will vary depending upon whether the shade fits within the window opening or overlaps the window opening. With inside mounts, note that the shade fabric will be about 1 1/4 narrower than the window opening, so if complete privacy and light control is desired, drapery side panels should be installed over the shade. ROUNDING YOUR MEASUREMENTS Dimensions on the order form should be accurate to within 1/8. Generally, round your measurements up to the nearest 1/8. However, with inside mounts, always round the width measurement down to the nearest 1/8 Rounding up could result in a shade that is too wide to fit within the window opening. For example, for an inside mount, 3/16 would round to 1/8. A. Measure the width about 1 1 4 down from the top of the window, which typically is where the installation brackets will be mounted. Remember to round down to the nearest 1 8. This measurement is the ordering width of the shade. Do not make any deductions from this width all necessary deductions will be made automatically when the shade is fabricated. B. Measure the width at the center and bottom of the window. If the width narrows by more than 1 from the top measurement, the customer should consider an outside mount. C. Measure the height of the window opening at three locations, as shown at right, and order the shortest measurement. Again, make no deductions. All necessary deductions will be made when the shade is fabricated. D. Measure window on the diagonal. If the two diagonal dimensions are not exactly the same, it may be more appropriate to specify an outside mount shade for optimal light control and privacy. E. Measure depth of window for mounting brackets. A. Measure the desired width and height. To minimize light leakage, it is recommended that the shade overlap the window opening at least 1 1 2 on each side, as well as at the top and bottom. As with inside mounts, do not make any deductions from your measurements. B. Measure the width at the location where you want the shade, and use this measurement as your ordering width for the shade. C. Measure the height from where the top of the roller will be located to where you want the bottom of the shade. 68 ROLLER SHADES

OPERATING SYSTEMS DESIGN & OPERATION SPECIFICATIONS CORDLESS Eliminates the danger of exposed cords and is easily adjusted by simply lifting or lowering the shade with a gentle push or pull on the bottomrail. MOTORIZED SHADE Perfect for hard-to-reach windows, motorized shades not only offer convenience, but also eliminate cords for a safer option. VERTICAL SHADINGS Side-to-side operation is perfect for sliding doors, room dividers and rectangular windows. Unique design eliminates the danger of cords. CONTINUOUS CORD LOOP A continuous cord loop opens and closes the shade smoothly and evenly. Eliminates the traditional dangling cord, making for a neater appearance. Ideal option for larger shades. VIEWING OPTIONS CLOSED TOP, OPEN BOTTOM By partially lowering the shade from the fully raised position, the upper portion of your window will become semi-opaque while allowing light to filter in. FULLY PRIVATE When lowered completely, the shade provides complete privacy and softly diffuses light. PARTIALLY OPEN Opening the shade slightly will gradually increase the level of light and allow varying levels of view-through. VIEW-THROUGH WHEN LOWERED By completely opening the vanes, the shade provides a softened, veiled view to the outside. SIDE-BY-SIDE ALIGNMENT When sheer shades are installed side-by-side, vane alignment can be guaranteed within 1/4 only if: Shades are the same color and are ordered at the same time. The sum total of the widths of all shades needing alignment is less than 102. Side-by-side lineup must be specified when the order is placed. VANE OPENING Vanes on the six styles of sheer shade fabrics open to slightly different degrees. Consequently, there are variations in visibility through the shades when the vanes are tilted to their maximum open positions. However, the inherent nature of the fabric will cause a slight increase in the distance from the front sheer to back sheer as you move further down the shade. These vanes do not form a perfect seal against light leakage which is most visible toward the bottom of the shade. HEIGHT CONSIDERATION The manufacturer will fabricate your window shading to the exact height ordered, when the vanes are in the open (or view-through) position. When the vanes are rotated to the closed position, the s hading will become 3/8 longer. When closed on an inside mount, a slight puckering can occur on the lower most sheer section because of contact with the sill. To compensate, slightly raise the shading until the rail begins to lift off the window sill. If preferred, AHD Sheer Shadings can be ordered 3/8 less than the window opening s measured height. In this case, the bottom rail will be positioned 3/8 above the sill when the vanes are in the open position, as shown in the illustration below. Rotating the vanes closed will cause the bottom rail to touch the window sill, closing any space. When installed level, the fabric will not skew when raised. If the headrail is not installed level, skewing can occur that can damage the edge of the fabric. Be sure to follow the installation instructions carefully to ensure correct and balanced operation. Vane closure is measured as the distance between the front and rear fabric sheers 6 up from the lowest point of the bottom rail, with the shade fully lowered and the vanes closed. For sheer shades, the maximum distance from the front sheer to the back sheer when closed is 7/8. Room darkening fabrics, the distance is 5/8. Vane closure on all 3 fabrics will have a distance of 1. MOUNTING REQUIREMENTS MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS STANDARD SHEER HEADRAIL BASIC GUIDELINES SOFFIT INSIDE MOUNT Available on all Standard Sheer Shades. INSIDE MOUNT Minimum flush with install brackets...3 3/4 SHALLOW MOUNT Minimum mounting surface...3/4 SIDE MOUNT Minimum mounting surface...1 1/4 Maximum shade width side mount... Minimum mounting surface...3/4 VERTICAL SHEER HEADRAIL Fits rectangular windows or doors. 3 3/16 HEADRAIL 2 2 1/2 Precise width and height measurements are critical. Fabric width cannot be altered after the shading is fabricated. Please use a metal tape measure for accuracy from home to factory. The headrail must be installed perfectly level and installed evenly to ensure smooth operation. On an inside mount, it is recommended that you check to see that the mounting surface is level and consistent. If your soffit needs to be leveled, this should be done before measuring. JAMB SILL JAMB INSIDE OUTSIDE SOFFIT INSIDE Measure across the width of your window opening in three different places - top, middle and bottom. Measurements should be taken within the window jamb. Provide the smallest of the three measurements to your fabricator. Be exact. Your fabricator will make the necessary deductions to fit the window opening. Measure the height of the window opening from the underside of the soffit to the surface of the window sill in two places - use the smallest of these two measurements. Measure the exact width and height of the area to be covered. On the width, allow at least 1 1/2 of an overlap on each side. An overlap of 3 on each side is recommended. Aluminum color coordinated headrail with fabric insert and color coordinated end caps. Operating systems: Wand/Cord, Moving Wand. SILL OUTSIDE Be sure to take into consideration any obstructions such as window trim, molding, locks and window cranks. INSIDE MOUNT Minimum mounting depth...1 Minimum mounting depth, full recess...1 SOFFIT SIDE MOUNT Minimum mounting surface height, standard bracket...1 1/8 Minimum mounting surface height, extension bracket...1 3/8 Recommended top overlap...5 JAMB INSIDE Sheer shades may be side mounted using L brackets. For side mounts, follow the instructions for inside mounts. An additional 1/2 will be taken off the standard inside mount deduction to allow room for the L brackets. Recommended minimum overlap per side (and bottom overlap when product does not hang to floor)...5 SILL INSIDE The maximum shade width utilizing the side mount option is. MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS BASIC GUIDELINES Accurate measurements are absolutely essential. The measurements your provide are used first to price the blind, and then to fabricate it to the specified size. Follow these basic guidelines to ensure a smooth and accurate installation: Always use a steel tape measure, preferably 3 4 to 1 wide. Measure width first, then height. Measure each window separately, even if they appear to be the same size. Survey the window area carefully and make additional measurements, if necessary. INSIDE OR How you take your measurements will vary depending upon whether the blind fits within the window opening or overlaps the window opening. ROUNDING YOUR MEASUREMENTS Dimensions on the order form should be accurate to within 1/8. Generally, round your measurements up to the nearest 1/8. However, with inside mounts, always round the width measurement down to the nearest 1/8 Rounding up could result in a shade that is too wide or too long to fit within the window opening. For example, for an inside mount, 3/16 would round to 1/8. INSIDE MOUNT A B C A. Measure the width about 1 1 4 down from the top of the window, which typically is where the installation brackets will be mounted. Remember to round down to the nearest 1 8. B. In addition, mark the measurements on a sketch of the cut-out to ensure accuracy. The measurements your provide are used first to price the blind, and then to fabricate it to the specified size. Follow these basic guidelines to ensure a smooth and accurate installation: Always use a steel tape measure, preferably 3 4 to 1 wide. Measure width first, then height. Measure each window separately, even if they appear to be the same size. Survey the window area carefully and make additional measurements, if necessary. Standard width is 1/8 narrower than ordered blind width. If a width dimension other than the standard is required, indicate this in special instructions, along with the notation, exact, no allowances.
