To be prepared for supervisory and management positions the Health Services Management Program provides the pathway for advancement. The Health Services Management Program provides education in the knowledge, behaviors and attitudes necessary to become both a successful supervisor and a successful leader. It is designed to provide training for employees already in supervisory and management roles as well as those who are seeking to move into leadership positions. HEALTH AND IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS The Health Services Management program does not require any health and safety records. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is the Health Services Management Program? The Program consists of coursework directed towards earning either a Certificate of Completion in Health Services Management (12 credits) or an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Health Services Management. What is the primary goal of the program? The primary goal of the program is to assist health services employees currently in leadership roles and those seeking leadership roles to gain the knowledge necessary to prepare them for leadership and supervisory responsibilities. What skills can I learn in this program that will help me move into a management position? This program provides a foundation for those wanting to move into a management position. The coursework offers an overview of the health services industry and the forces that influence and control it. The program is designed to teach the skills necessary to manage human resources through effective hiring practices, performance management, policy development, and supervisory functions. Effective written and verbal communication and problem solving skills are taught to enhance a supervisor s performance. The Associates of Arts degree also includes course requirements in accounting principles, quality management and basic computer operation. After completing the program, what type of employment can I expect? These courses will provide you with skills and knowledge to advance into leadership and supervisory positions in the healthcare setting. How do I apply to the program? Contact an Advisor for the Health Services Management Program. You will be provided with additional information, and your prior work experience and academic credits will be discussed. How long does the program take to complete? The Associate of Applied Science Program could be completed in at little as (2) years depending on the student s schedule and other time commitments. Where are the classes located and what times are they held? Classes are held both on the GateWay Community College campus, and also at local valley hospitals to make it convenient for students. Most GWCC onsite classes are held in the late afternoon and early evening starting between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. All classes meet once a week, for a full semester, and are three hours in length. Is the program recognized in the health services field? Yes, it is recognized in the health services field and our graduates are employed throughout the valley in hospitals, physician s offices and other facilities. Many students are funded by their employers to attend these courses. If I have a criminal record, will that prohibit me from being successful in this career? If you have any technical issues, please call 1-888-994-4433. HOW TO APPLY & ENROLL STEP 1: APPLY FOR ADMISSION GateWay is one of 10 Maricopa Community Colleges. To enroll to any of the colleges, you must first create a student account. You may download the Student Information Form here, complete the form and email it to enroll@gatewaycc.edu or go to my.maricopa.edu to complete the process online. Please fully complete the Student Information form because leaving missing data or blanks may impact your ability to find scholarships or other financial aid sources through AcademicWorks to help pay for college. To create an account, go to the MEID Account Wizard, which is located within my.maricopa.edu. Follow the instructions for the MEID Account Wizard to create a user ID & password. STEP 2: APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID AND PAY Financial Aid Before you apply for financial aid, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). STEP 3: STEP 4: STEP 5: In Person Go to the Cashier's Office at Enrollment Services, located in the IE (Integrated Education Building) to pay for classes in full, using cash or credit. Picture ID may be required for some student transactions. ASSESSMENT TESTING If you are planning to enroll in an English, Math or Reading course, you may be required to take placement tests at Enrollment Services Testing Center, located in the IE (Integrated Education) Building. Test scores are used to decide which courses to take. Here's what you need to know before you go: Assessment tests are free of charge. These tests are good for two years. Separate tests for English, Math and Reading may be required. Testing times vary depending upon the user's pace. On average, each test takes approximately 25 minutes. Photo ID and Student ID number required. Bring a copy of your unofficial transcripts. Walk-in appointments are accepted with a Student ID. Students may also contact a program advisor, faculty member or counselor to make an appointment. Please review the Testing Center's page for hours and schedule. REVIEW PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS Each of our Health Science programs has unique requirements. We strongly encourage you to review the program packets and the current catalog for any specialties that you might consider. These resources will provide you with detailed program information regarding prerequisite courses and application procedures. STEP 6: STEP 7: STEP 8: PROGRAM APPLICATION Many of GateWay Community College s Health Science programs have a special admissions procedure, but the Health Services Management program does not have any special admission process nor generally any waiting list. Expect to complete a student information form at your first night of class. Please be sure to review this information to ensure that your application materials are complete and received at the Special Admissions office by the stated deadlines. You will receive notification of your acceptance via e-mail. This will arrive through the Maricopa email account set up when you received your MEID. So you will want to check this account regularly, or have it forwarded to an account which you do check often. Keep your contact information current with GateWay Community Colleges Admissions and Records department. SELECT YOUR CLASSES & REGISTER GateWay requires on-time registration because we believe success starts from day one. Enroll early, get your books and be in class ready to learn from the first day. For classes with published start dates and meeting times, registration in the class must be completed before the first official class meeting date and time. No late registration in a class once it has started is allowed. Registration for a class on the date it starts must be done in person or on the phone, and must be completed before the class start time. For classes without published meetings times, registration in the class must be completed by 11:59 p.m. the day before the class starts. You will find there are many ways to receive academic, financial or career assistance to get involved in our community. The Maricopa Community Colleges Class Schedule allows you to find classes by semester, time & date. Pick out the classes you want and go to the My.maricopa.edu Online Student Center. Login using your MEID & password to create your class schedule. ATTEND NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (REQUIRED FOR ALL FIRST-TIME STUDENTS) Orientations are held prior to Fall and Spring semesters and all students are welcome. Advising Meeting with a Health Sciences academic advisor in the Center for Health Careers Education (CHCE) is on a walk-in basis on Mondays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (but closed on Fridays in the Summer).
