Clinical psychological service is based on an integration of theory, scientific research, practice and clinical judgment. There are four main types of services: (1) direct service to clients, which may include assessment (such as personality, behavior, intelligence) and/or psychological treatment; (2) supportive service to carers; (3) professional consultation (including staff training, clinical supervision, teaching) and public education (such as promotion of psychological health) and (4) research. This is not an exhaustive list for all clinical psychology services provided by Non-Government (Voluntary) Organizations in. The Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP) of The Psychological Society (HKPS) provides this list for the public s information and reference only. This does not mean DCP recommends the service of a particular organization or holds any interest in providing this list. Clinical psychologists with their names listed under each organization are DCP members who have given DCP the consent to publish their names on this list. The information listed here is provided by individual organizations. DCP does not hold any legal liability for the professional services rendered by listed organizations. Exercise care in choosing qualified clinical psychologists At present, anybody in can self-declare himself/herself as psychologist providing psychological services or psychotherapy. There is no statutory body with legal powers to monitor professional qualification or practice of clinical psychology in. To protect your own rights, you [DCP/ER/NGO CP list/eng/04/10] 1
should be careful in choosing the service-provider. First of all, pay attention to or verify the person s academic and professional qualifications. For instance, check whether the person is eligible to be a Registered Clinical Psychologist of HKPS (note 1) and a member of our Division (note 2). Criteria for becoming a Registered Psychologist of The Psychological Society (HKPS) Since 1994, HKPS has operated a voluntary, society-based registration for psychologists. Registration requirements include (i) at least masters or doctoral degree in psychology, and (ii) at least one-year post-qualification experience, and (iii) abiding by the Code of Professional Conduct of HKPS. Psychologists registered with HKPS can use the title Registered Psychologist or the initials Reg. Psych.. The Registration Board of HKPS issues to each Registered Psychologist a registration certificate which clearly lists out the full name (in English, and if applicable, also in Chinese characters), Registration Number, and an expiry date (which is 31 st Oct of each year), signed by both the Registrar and the Secretary. Registered Psychologists have to comply with the Code of Professional Conduct and satisfy with other registration requirements before renewal of registration. Members of the public can view the current list of Registered Psychologists in the HKPS webpage (http://www.hkps.org.hk). 2. Membership Criteria for Division of Clinical Psychology (DCP) a) Members of DCP must have obtained at least a masters degree in clinical psychology [which includes these three components: (1) intense practicum under close supervision in many sub-specialized areas (such as child and adolescence, adult psychiatry, chronic illness or disability); (2) intense training in psychological assessment (such as intelligence tests); and (3) independent research]. b) DCP members who have obtained one-year relevant work experience and have complied with other registration requirements of HKPS are eligible for registration with the specialization clinical psychology. After registration, they can use the title of Registered Psychologist (Clinical) or Registered Clinical Psychologist or the initials Reg. Psych. (Clin. Psych.) after their name.
