Guidelines for publishing manuscripts Estudos e Pesquisas em Psicologia is a quarterly electronic journal hosted at the site http://www.revispsi.uerj.br, created in order to publish inedited texts on Psychology and cognate areas in the form of articles, brief reports of researches, summaries of thesis and reviews. Reflections from the several areas of knowledge that compose the Human and Social Sciences and that may contribute effectively to the deepening of the issues concerning Psychology, are also welcome. This way, the Editorial Committee, comprised by teachers of the Instituto de Psicologia da UERJ (Rio de Janeiro State University), plans to be in consonance with the perspective that considers the psy knowledges and practices as a field crossed by other knowledges and practices. The journal accepts articles in the following sections: Articles, including investigations based on empirical data, theoretical analysis or critical reading of literature, with a minimum of 12 standard pages.reviews, critical reading of newly published work, guiding the reader as for its characteristics and potential uses, with a minimum of 4 standard pages. Reports of thesis newly defended, with a minimum of 6 standard pages; Reports of researches, a complete brief research report, about a concluded or ongoing research, limited to 6 standard pages. The journal will publish translated articles, as far as they are accompanied by the due authorization of the source of the original publication; movie reviews that show clearly the link of the expressed subject with the various questions approached by Human and Social Sciences, and using bibliographic references; interviews with intellectuals, renowned and significant to the already stated area. The manuscripts submitted are directed to two ad hoc reviewers and returned to the authors when the evaluations appoint the need of corrections, changes, as well as when they are rejected. The Editorial Committee reserves itself the right to make short modifications or cuts in the work, aiming to adjust it to the journal patterns. The citations must be indicated in the text by the author, date or the author, date, page system, as following examples: To Macedo (1990), Rachele (1992) and Silva Junior (1995), the family structures interfere in children s behavior. b) In a recent study (BARBOSA, 2003, p. 47), it has been presented [ ] the values found at the Brazilian workers communities [ ]. c) According to Morais (1985, p. 135), the presence of police interventions in the slums [ ] has increased the urban violence. d) Many authors (BRUNETTI, 1983, p. 25; MELO, 1987, p. 57; MACEDO, 1990, p. 37) present original methodologies concerning the issue. Different titles of a same author, with the same date, must be distinguished, adding a letter after the date. E.g.: (CÂNDIDO, 1992a), (CÂNDIDO, 1992b). When there is coincidence of authors with same family name and works with the same publishing date, the initials of their first names must be added. E.g.: (BARBOSA, C., 1956), (BARBOSA, O., 1956) When it comes to data obtained by oral information (lectures, debates, lectures, etc.), identify it by including in parenthesis the expression oral information. E.g. Tricart has verified that at Bacia do Resende, in the Vale do Paraíba, there are traces of dejection cones (oral information). When quoting ongoing or unpublished works, it is necessary to mention this fact, indicating the available bibliographical data. E.g.: In the Urbanization Plan of Morro do Pavão, signed by José de Souza Carvalho and others and realized by means of the TBAN/BCNF agreement in 1978 (still in elaboration), radical modifications are suggested. When the citation is from a secondary source, it is necessary to mention the original author followed by the word apud and the author, date and page of the work directly consulted. The full identification of the consulted work should be included in the reference list. E.g.: According to Russo (apud OLIVEIRA, 2002, p. 25), [ ] the psychoanalysts, as they constitute corps [ ]. We can state that [ ] the psychoanalysts, as they constitute corps [ ] (RUSSO apud OLIVEIRA, 2002, p. 25). Presentation of Bibliographic References They must be listed at the end of the work, before the notes. They must include only the reference quoted in the text, in alphabetical order based in the author s family name and in accordance to the publishing date, that is, from the older to the more recent. Titles of periodicals, books, publishers, etc. must not be abbreviated. Examples of presentation by the kind of material: Book: GOMES, L. G. F. F. Novela e sociedade no Brasil. 3.ed.
