Submission (i) The copies of the masters' dissertation or project work to be submitted, in number according with the stipulated in the guidelines of the 2nd cycle, or of the doctoral thesis, in number according with the stipulated in the guidelines of the 3rd cycle, in paper and CD with.pdf format file. [Other requisites for deposit in the institutional repository ( and in the Portuguese National Library 2 and for the Observatory: the CD identified with the title, name of the author, identification of ISCTE-IUL, year in which the defence takes place and type of work (thesis, dissertation, project work) written in indelible ink, and packed in cardboard or plastic box; the abstracts in both languages in MS Word file]. (ii) (iii) (iv) Each copy contains a CV in form of table in the end. [School of Management and Department of Economics: Submission of separate CV] Declaration from the Supervisor stating that the dissertation or project work or thesis is concluded and capable of being presented in public examination. A request from the student, addressed to ISCTE-IUL's President, soliciting the presentation of the dissertation or project work or thesis. The dissertation or project work or thesis may be written in English. In the final version of the doctoral thesis a second page must be included, indicating the composition of the board of examiners. 2 abstracts, one in Portuguese and the other in English, with a maximum of 250 words each, and at least 4 key words and the classification adopted in the organic unit. [School of Management and Department of Economics: 2 classifications by the JEL Classification System, Department of Social and Organizational Psychology: 2 classifications by the American Psychological Association (PsycINFO Classification Categories and Codes)] [School of management: production of an extensive abstract (up to 500 words for divulgation]. Recommended maximum dimension of the text not greater than 50 pages in master's project works, 80 pages in master's dissertations and 300 in doctoral theses. The works must include introduction and conclusion, as well as a bibliography, and are divided into chapters. Annexes numbered in ordered alphabetically A, B, C... In case of need to include sheets larger than A4, these must be folded into the A4 format. [Department of History: 70 to 100 pages recommended for the masters' dissertations or project works and from 250 to 300 pages in the doctoral theses, excluding bibliography and annexes] [Department of Sociology: The maximum extent of the master's dissertation or project work may not exceed 40 pages in most masters, except the Master in Public Administration, the master's in Communication, Culture and Information Technology, the master's in Social Policy and in Social Work, with a limit of 80 pages for the body of the dissertation, including bibliography, and of 10 pages for annexes. For the international edition (Brazil) of the master's in Public Administration, the limit shall be 140 pages.] [School of Management: a limit of 100 pages are recommended in master's dissertations, excluding bibliography and annexes.] [Department of Architecture: 1 st - The students shall submit an A4 box, with the cover and spine graphically formatted in accordance with the standards defined by ISCTE-IUL. 2 nd - The students must include the following three elements in the box: - A 21cm x 21 cm book composed graphically in accordance with the criteria defined by the candidate (which are, naturally, subject to evaluation). This volume must contain both the theoretical works and the conceptual approaches developed throughout the academic year. The option for this format arises from the intention of summoning students to produce an uncommon graphic composition, so as to boost their commitment which, according to our scientific criteria, may improve the quality of the final result; - A set of drawings reproduced so as to fit the A4 format, which correspond to the graphic elements presented by the candidate, in fitting scale and size, during the public act of evaluation before the board of examiners; - A CD containing the general data for presentation, in pdf format.] The printing of the master's dissertation or project work or doctoral thesis must conform to the following general rules: a) A4 white paper with 80 grams, or recycled equivalent. 3/10

4 b) White cardstock cover with black printing, logotype in colour and adhesive binding. c) Pages of text with black print, spacing of 1,5 and divided into chapters/sections with Arabic numerals; two-sided printing is suggested. d) Font type and size: Times New Roman 12 points; or Arial 10 points. e) Footnotes with single line spacing. Use moderately with line 10 points. f) Margins: minimum 2.5 centimetres on the four sides. g) Page numbering from the tables of contents to the introduction (exclusively): in Roman numbering, down and outside the margins. h) Header: it is recommended to insert the title (abbreviated) of the thesis. i) Footer: page numbers in Arabic numerals, outside the margins. The page numbering in the body of the thesis continues in the annexes. 2.1 Cover, title page and spine Adoption of a cover and spine standardised model in all ISCTE-IUL Departments/Schools, with the logotype of ISCTE-IUL and/or the School's with indication of the Department/School. See annex with example. The bibliography must be presented in indented paragraphs with single line spacing, in Times New Roman 12 or Arial Tables and graphs Tables and graphs must have Arabic numbering and caption with title and description. The caption is self-explanatory. tables, graphs and figures should, preferentially, be near the part of the main text to which they refer to, and may be printed in colour. 4/10

5 2.5 Citation and transcription of sources In general, the rules of citation and references are the ones designated by each Department/School on the basis of determined normative criteria or benchmarks. [Department of History: The reference to documentary sources must be made in a footnote, end of chapter or end of text; Transcription may be done as described in the document or not.
