Control of installations with MCS Program Description The MCS program is a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) specially designed for supervising filtration and water treatment equipment of one or various pools. MCS is based on the INTOUCH standard program, one of the best known program packages in the world, and is approved by the main multinational companies working in this sector such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, chemical, aerospace, automation, foodstuffs, power, etc... MCS has efficiently solved all requirements of control and supervision processes involved in an installation permitting a totally unattended automatic operation, i. e. not requiring the presence of any person. Information collected by MCS permits executing maintenance operations at lower costs and at higher affectivity than those by conventional systems. The possibility of remote monitoring and installation control (by way of telephone MODEM) adds still more to the quality and cost reduction of maintenance operations. MSC is a programmable computer application depending on the requirements of user and installation. 1
Field of use of MCS program In an automated installation, MCS is jus one more component of the installation. MCS needs to take the installation data (temperatures, levels, pressures, chlorine ppm, ph ) through the right equipment. These equipments can be any kind of PLC (industrial automata), dosing central (like Vigilant), and, any kind of electronic device with the capacity of communicating with a computer. An automated plant with MCS always have two different parts: the software, and the hardware (PLC s, controllers, Vigilants, ) MCS can be used with any kind of electronic equipment with the capacity of communicating with a computer. Advantages of MCS Scaling MCS is a system which adapts itself to any installation size. As it is based on a programmable software application, MCS can go on increasing and acquiring new functions at any time of its useful life. Customization MCS is a tool that can be customize depending on the requirements of any installation. There is a wide library of functions that can be added to the standard configuration of the program. Functionality: Man-machine Interfase MCS permits the management of all controllable functions from a computer screen The traditional buttons and light indicators in electric control panels have now become obsolete, and have been substituted by interactive synoptic permitting access to all possible control functions using just the mouse. Intuitive operation One of the advantages of working with MCS is that the follow-up of the functioning of the installation is done totally by intuition by following live graphs and synoptic charts faithfully reflecting the real functioning of the installation. Moreover, operating the unit from a computer screen permits situating the control desk in the most convenient location, and need not necessarily be in the plant room. 2
If required, different control units can be installed at different strategically situated points from which you can control and operate the installation simultaneously. Another advantage is that computerizing the control system using an MCS program permits us activating any control from the installation site or from any remote place using the telephone lines. Data Recording Any incidence occurring in the MCS controlled units is recorded in the Data Recording Archive for any posterior consultation. Data Recording Archive offers valuable information regarding the functioning of the installation. This information can be utilised for optimising preventivecorrective maintenance of the installation, for improving the performance and efficiency of the different items, saving in chemical product dispensing, and specially for improving the comfort and security of the swimmers. MCS permits recording as many data archives as required to cover any aspect of the installation. 3
Alarm recording MCS also records alarm signals as a complement to the follow up of installation operation, for which, it is provided with a alarm recording facility which punctually reports any incidence occurring in the installation. The alarm recording is totally configurable and permits defining various priority levels. Alarm recording is based in American and European alarm treatment and acknowledgement Standards. Every alarm signal also registers the date and hour it is activated and deactivated, value of the indication, commentary on the alarm and the name of the worker who acknowledged it. Remote Alarm Signals Alarm recording is provided with the option of transmitting the different alarm signals to other locations by way of a cellular (or fixed) telephone, E-mail or SMS. Messages sent through the telephone are recordings associated to each type of alarm. Remote alarm system has infinite programming possibilities for sending different messages to different recipients. This tool is specially useful for optimising installation maintenance as it permits to distinguish between electrical, hydraulic, security failures or just make up consumable breakdowns. 4
