The Children s Board of Hillsborough County Who We Are The Children s Board of Hillsborough County is an independent special taxing district that was established by Hillsborough County voters in 1988 to improve the lives of children and their families in our community. The Children s Board generates revenue from property tax paid by Hillsborough County property owners. Through a competitive procurement process, the Children s Board invests those dollars in programs and services provided by nonprofit organizations within the County which focus on children prenatal to age 8 and their families. The Children s Board is governed by 10 board members, including five citizens from Hillsborough County appointed by the Governor, the regional director of the Department of Children of Families, an elected juvenile judge from the 13th Judicial Circuit Court, an elected Commissioner from the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, an elected School Board member and the Superintendent of Hillsborough County Schools. As required by law, the Children s Board is audited by an independent auditor each year. The Children s Board is one of 8 independent Children s Services Councils in Florida. Our Mission The Children s Board of Hillsborough County promotes the well-being of children and families by uniting community partners, investing in innovative opportunities, and leading the county in best practices so the whole community can realize its full potential. Our Vision Hillsborough County will be recognized as one of the top places in the nation to raise children. What We Believe We believe that by investing early in our families and children, we benefit from stronger schools, safer neighborhoods, a more productive workforce and a more prosperous economy. We believe in opportunity, by giving everyone the ability to realize their talents and full potential. We believe that publicly-funded programs must be held to the highest standards of quality and accountability. 1a

The Children s Board Administrative Services Organization/Flexible Funding Pool The Children s Board and community partners invest over $3 million in a funding pool that supports families in our community. [Last year, over 5,700 children and more than 23,000 household members received support from the Children s Board through its flexible funds. More than half the funding covered critical basic needs, including housing, food, clothing, and transportation.] Values The vision, mission and goals of the Children s Board of Hillsborough County will be guided by the following core values: Integrity Demonstrating honesty and sincerity in all of our dealings. Upholding only the highest ethical principles. Making decisions that reflect the highest standards of proper stewardship and accountability of resources. Excellence Projecting professionalism in everything we do. Being accountable for our actions. Delivering every product and service in an outstanding manner. Developing a quality workforce.
