General Instructions RelianceFallProtection,LLC It is the responsibility of the employer, as part of a total fall arrest rescue and evacuation program, to retain the manufacturer s instructions and make them readily available to all users. The employer must provide adequate training in the proper use and care of this product prior to use. Zinc plated with yellow chromate Webbing: 3-in. polyester sling webbing Wear pads: cordura Always certify, using a qualified person, that the beam to which the Anchor Strap is being attached will carry the intended loads per OSHA and ANSI standards. For horizontal lifeline use, this means that the structure or I-beam must be capable of supporting twice the anticipated load of the lifeline. Intended Use and Purpose of the Equipment The Skyline Horizontal Lifeline Anchor Strap is an anchorage connector intended for use only on I-beams with rigid flanges. An anchorage is a secure means of attachment to which horizontal lifelines may be affixed without attaching a permanent anchorage point to the structure. The Anchor Strap acts as a choker strap, with one end of the strap passing through the d-ring at the opposite end and then attaching to the horizontal lifeline. As the lifeline is tensioned, the strap tightens against itself, locking it firmly in place against the I-beam. Rev: - Date: 02/01/02 Doc.: M-6095 Page 3 of 9

Proper Method of Use RelianceFallProtection,LLC The Skyline HLL Anchor Strap is designed as a temporary end anchorage for horizontal lifelines that can be installed to a structural I-beam to provide a rigid anchorage point for one horizontal lifeline only This system consists of a 3-in. wide polyester strap that is 6-ft. in length. It has one 3-in. triangular d-ring at one end, and a 4-in. triangular d-ring at the opposite end. There are also 4 cordura wear sleeves to prevent abnormal wear of the polyester webbing by the flanges of the I- beam. To attach the HLL Anchor Strap 1. Identify the I-beam that is to serve as the end anchorage location for the horizontal lifeline. 2. Position the I-beam strap so that one end is on each side of the I-beam. 3. Pass the 3-in. triangle through the center of the 4-in. triangle. The flat side of the triangle should be flush against the webbing (the corner of the 4-in. triangle should be hidden by the strap). 4. Pull on the 3-in ring to begin tightening the strap onto the I-beam. 5. Slide the cordura wear sleeves into position so that there is one centered over the I-beam flanges to prevent wear of the polyester strap. 6. Attach the end of the horizontal lifeline to the 3-in. triangle of the Anchor Strap using the 1/2- in bow shackle that was supplied with the lifeline. 7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for the opposite end of the lifeline if using a second Anchor Strap as an end anchor point. 8. Complete the installation of the horizontal lifeline according to the specific instructions that came with the lifeline. 9. Begin to tension the horizontal lifeline to its final tension. As tension is increased, the lifeline may be lifted into position placing the lifeline at the correct height above the walking/working surface according to the specific design of the lifeline. As the lifeline tension increases, the force holding the straps in place will also increase. 10. If an HLL Anchor Strap slides out of position prior to the final tension being reached, reduce the lifeline tension slightly to allow the strap to be easily slid back into position. DO NOT attempt to move the Anchor Strap while under tension! This could cause wear or damage to the Strap, making it UNSAFE for use, which could result in injury or even death! 11. Re-examine the Anchor straps to ensure that the cordura wear sleeves are in place against the I-beam flanges. 12. Tighten the lifeline to its final tension. RelianceFallProtection,LLC To Remove the HLL Anchor Strap Removal of the HLL Anchor Strap is accomplished by releasing the tension from the horizontal lifeline and removing the 1/2-in. bow shackles. Once the lifeline is removed, pull the 3-in triangle out of the 4-in. triangle allowing the strap to be removed from the I-beam. CAUTION! Use only with Reliance Industrial Products supplied horizontal lifelines and components. Do not attach the anchor strap to any structure or I-beam not certified to be capable of supporting the required loads. Do not install on open-ended I-beam or structure. Do not install in corrosive environments that will cause degradation or corrosion of steel or zinc plated components or which may damage the polyester webbing. Do not alter or attempt to repair the equipment. Use equipment for intended purpose only. Do not use combinations of components or subsystems, or both, which may affect or interfere with the safe function of each other. Do not expose equipment to chemicals that may produce a harmful effect. Consult the manufacturer in cases of doubt. Do not use equipment around moving machinery and electrical hazards. Do not use equipment near sharp edges and abrasive surfaces. Avoid exposure to physical and chemical hazards that the product is not designed to withstand. This product should be used only according with these instructions and in accordance with all state, federal and local safety regulations. The worker must read, heed and understand all warnings and instructions called out in the labels and operating instructions prior to use. Any hazards to safe and proper operation must be eliminated prior to use. The manufacturer is not responsible for damages resulting from an improper application of the product. Proper application also means considering the operating instructions, workplace geometry, workplace hazards and the conditions of inspection and maintenance. RelianceFallProtection,LLC The user must have a rescue plan, be trained in the use of this plan and the means at hand to implement it when using this equipment. Damaged products and products having already been used for arresting a fall must be removed from service. Whenever the structure to which this anchor clamp is attached is altered the suitability of the anchor clamp as an anchorage must be re-certified by a qualified person. Periodic inspections should be conducted by this qualified person at least once yearly. Inspection, Maintenance, and Storage The user of this product is responsible for the execution of inspection, maintenance and possible repairs. The user shall inspect equipment before each use to ensure that the equipment is in serviceable condition and operating correctly. A yearly inspection of this product should be performed by a qualified person capable of determining the suitability for use. In addition to this, the product must be checked for possible damages after any fall arrest load has been applied and is to be examined by an expert who must then decide if the product is suitable for further use. The user must remove equipment from field service that has been subjected to a fall arrest. An authorized inspection is then required to determine if the product is suitable for further use. When any inspection reveals defects in, damage to, or inadequate maintenance of equipment, the equipment shall be tagged as UNUSABLE and be permanently removed from service or undergo adequate corrective maintenance by means of an authorized inspection before return to service. Most common defects are for example: Triangular d-rings that are cracked, bent, deformed, or showing signs of wear or corrosion. Cuts, tears, weld strikes, holes, glazing of the surface or other signs that the strap has been exposed to high heat, or a thinning of the strap material. Missing or damaged wear sleeves. Missing or unreadable labels and warnings. Improper attachment to beam for intended use. Prior to installation equipment shall be stored in a cool, dry and clean place away from direct sunlight in a manner as to preclude damage from environmental factors such as heat, light, excessive moisture, oil, chemicals and their vapors or other degrading elements.
