Volume 1, Issue 1 January 2014 LSU ONLINE NEWSLETTER New LSU Online Program: Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Construction Management LSU Online is excited to announce a new online program through the College of Engineering. The post-baccalaureate certificate (PBC) is the first online post-baccalaureate degree program ever to be offered by Louisiana State University. The PBC will be conferred upon students who complete six online Construction Management courses specifically designed to provide the basic core knowledge needed for a construction manager. Chuck Berryman, Department Chair in Construction management stated, The successful students will be those interested in a career within the business side of construction and those with general computer skills. Military veterans or veterans in the field can take advantage of the program while deployed. Business, engineering or architecture majors can seek the certificate as they begin a career change process into the construction industry. This program would also benefit individuals from the various city municipalities, government agencies, insurance assessors, property appraisers, realtors, marketing professionals, accountants, attorneys, and lenders. LSU Online Faculty Orientation LSU Online Faculty Orientation offers one stop shopping for online teaching information Information covered in the LSU Online Faculty Orientation includes: LSU Online is excited to announce the development of LSU Online Faculty Orientation. Various orientation sessions are held prior to the beginning of each new module to provide faculty with much needed information to be successful in the online teaching environment. The Faculty Orientation is designed to provide LSU Online faculty with all of the information they need, prior to the start of their class beginning, so that they can feel comfortable with teaching in the LSU Online format explained LSU Online Director, Dr. Charity Bryan. LSU Online Webinar Providing Comprehensive Student Support Services Online When: Tuesday, January 28 th 2:00-3:00pm, follow-up discussion from 3:00-3:30pm Where: Faculty Technology Center (109 Middleton Library) This webinar, presented by Innovative Educators, will offer strategies for maintaining or enhancing online student support services. In addition, information will be provided regarding how to access online tools to use immediately, prompt you to explore strategies for providing specialized services, and provide insight into leveraging distance education and online services. Sloan-C Training Opportunities Free to LSU Faculty and Staff! Sloan-C is an institutional and professional leadership organization dedicated to integrating online education into the mainstream of higher education, helping institutions and individual educators improve the quality, scale and breadth of online education. A unique feature of Sloan-C is the Sloan-C institute, created to provide opportunities to engage in professional development about online teaching and distance learning. LSU Online is excited to offer an incredible online professional development opportunity through the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C). LSU faculty and staff can enroll in Sloan-C Workshops (1 week in duration) or the Sloan-C Certificate Program (9 weeks + 3 workshops) at no cost to you! New to Online: The Essentials is the entry-level Sloan-C Workshop for faculty/staff. The next course is scheduled for February 21-28, 2014, and will be offered again March 21-18, 2014. Registration for the 2014 Certificate Program is underway now!
