Its 123 judges serve a population of over two million. It has four courthouses which house circuit and county court judges, the Administrative Office of the Courts, the Clerk's Office and other court-related personnel: the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building REG), where circuit and county criminal cases are heard; the Dade County Courthouse, where circuit and county civil and probate cases are heard; the Lawson E. Thomas Courthouse Center, where family and domestic violence cases are heard; and the Juvenile Justice Center, where juvenile delinquency and dependency cases are heard. Conducting legal research of substantive and procedural legal matters, and drafting/preparing legal documents, such as opinions, judgments, post-conviction orders, memoranda or orders concerning extraordinary writs. Drafting proposed orders for motions filed in and issues arising during death penalty cases; drafting proposed orders imposing a life-or-death sentence in death penalty cases. Drafting post-conviction orders in cases under a signed death warrant from the Governor. Reviewing files, evidence, depositions, pleadings, motions, legal briefs, and memoranda of law, proposed orders and other related documentation in order to advise judges in a variety of legal areas. Attending motion hearings, and providing immediate legal research and recommendations required by judges conducting court sessions. Attending staff meetings to exchange information; acting as staff attorney; assistant general counsel; attending hearings as required. Assisting the circuit appellate division by drafting bench briefs and/or appellate opinions. Reporting to, and assisting the Judicial Circuit General Counsel or Court Administrator by reviewing contracts, or drafting administrative memoranda and orders to promote the efficient administration of justice. 1-1

Its well diversified legal staff is comprised of excellent lawyers who have graduated from law schools throughout the country. Prosecuted Juvenile Misdemeanor and Felony cases pertaining to aggravated assault, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, lewd and lascivious battery, behavior, conduct, molestation and exhibition as well as unlawful sexual activity and sexual battery cases on children under 12, between 12 and 15, 16 to 17 and adults. Prosecuted Adult Felony division cases at the C level, B level and A level. Prosecuted from third degree cases such grand theft, felony battery, child abuse and aggravated assault, to second degree cases such as aggravated battery, strong-arm robbery, sexual battery, lewd and lascivious molestation to first degree felonies such as armed robbery, grand theft over $100,000, narcotics trafficking, attempted murder, felony murder and kidnapping. 1-2

Prosecuted life and capital felonies such as first degree murder, second degree murder, sexual battery on a child under 12 years of age, armed kidnapping and other offenses.
