CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY IN ALL SECTIONS* Entries are invited from Australian and international artists in the Open, Tertiary and Student Sections of the 2015 Silk Cut Award. All entries must be linocut prints and must be original works submitted by the artist/s whose name appears on the entry form and have been completed since June 2014. The entered work must be produced from Silk Cut Linoleum. The lino block(s) should be retained by the artist and forwarded promptly to the Gallery on written request. Only one entry per artist or student in the Open or Tertiary section will be accepted. Any one class, of any one school, is allowed a maximum of FIVE individual entries including one collaborative/group work in the Student Section. * Please ensure you also read Conditions of Entry specific to the section you are entering below. Closing date for entries 5 June (5pm) OPEN SECTION: CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Entrants must be over 18 years of age. Two-dimensional, three-dimensional works and artists books are accepted. Only one entry per artist in the Open section will be accepted. Entries in the Open Section cannot be simultaneously entered in the Tertiary or Student Sections. Collaborative works are not accepted. Grand Prize (Acquisitive): The winner may choose either a return air fare to Amsterdam plus 10 days accommodation, valued at $10,000 including $1000 spending money, organised tours and activities OR a monetary prize of $8000. This prize is acquisitive and the winning artwork will become the property of the Silk Cut Foundation without further payment to the artist. Purchase Prizes: An amount limited to $5000 has been allocated for the purchase of other works recommended by the judges at the sale price stated on the entry form. It is recommended that artists nominate a fair market price. Acquired works will become part of the Silk Cut Foundation Collection which is part of an ongoing gift to the National Gallery of Australia. These acquisitions are at the discretion of the Silk Cut Foundation which reserves the right not to purchase to the full $5000 budget. 1

TERTIARY SECTION: CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Entrants must be undergraduate students enrolled in a Diploma or Degree of Fine Arts (Visual Art) at a University, TAFE or Technical College. International Tertiary students are also welcome to enter in this category. Each Tertiary Student is allowed only one entry. Collaborative works in this section are not accepted. Entries in the Tertiary Section cannot be simultaneously entered in the Open or Student Sections. Prizes One Tertiary Student Acquisitive Award of $1000 will be selected by the judges and presented. The winning work will form part of the ongoing gift to the National Gallery of Australia. STUDENT SECTION: CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Entrants must be either under 18 years of age or attending primary or secondary school. Each school is allowed a maximum of FIVE individual entries including one collaborative/group entry. Class project entries are welcomed (ie; group works) The skillful use of materials and imaginative content is encouraged. The judging will aim to reflect the range of age groups within this category. Entries in the Student Section cannot be simultaneously entered in the Open or Tertiary Sections. This is not negotiable. All works pre-selected by the judges for exhibition, apart from artist books, can be framed, unframed or window mounted on firm board for exhibition. All works must be accompanied by a completed entry form. PRIZES Winning Works: Up to three acquisitive Silk Cut Student Award will be presented. The winners will each receive a Silk Cut Award Trophy and Certificate of Recognition and their school will receive a monetary prize of $2500 for their art department. All winning works will form part of the ongoing gift to the National Gallery of Australia (NGA). Commended Works: Up to four Commended works will be selected by the judges (nonacquisitive) for inclusion in the Silk Cut exhibition. These entries will receive publication and a Certificate of recognition. 2

HOW TO ENTER On-line entry procedure: Using the on-line entry form on the Glen Eira City Council Gallery website (www.gleneira.vic.gov.au/silkcut), entrants must submit a completed entry form including payment of their entry fee and upload a digital image of their entry. Upon lodgment, acknowledgement of entry and payment will be sent to entrants via an automated email. Entry Fees (non-refundable): Open Section: $22.00 Tertiary Section: $11.00 Student Section: Free Payment of the entry fee can be made via the following methods: Credit Card (Visa Card or MasterCard) or Visa Debit Card Format of digital images: Digital image should be supplied as a JPEG file, 300 dpi, less than 2 MB where possible. Please save the image with the following details as the file name: Artist s surname_artist s irstname_title.jpeg. (example: smith_john_still_life.jpeg) Entrants should submit high quality images as the images supplied will be used by the Gallery for the pre-selection/judging process, catalogue reproduction and promotion if the artist/work is selected as a finalist. Emailed images, discs, photographs or any alternative methods of entry will not be accepted. Entries are only accepted using the online entry form/process. The judges will select up to fifty finalists in the Open Section and up to fifty finalists in the Tertiary and Student Section. These works will comprise the 2015 Silk Cut Award Exhibition. 3

RECEIPT OF PRE-SELECTED WORKS Entries pre-selected by the judges as finalists in the 2015 Silk Cut Award exhibition must be delivered to: Glen Eira City Council Gallery (Caulfield Town Hall), Corner Glen Eira & Hawthorn Roads, Caulfield VIC 3162 Entries must be suitably framed or otherwise prepared for exhibition. Your name, contact details and the title of the work must be clearly visible on the back of the work. Clear instructions must accompany entries that require assembly. All framed entries must be ready for hanging with two D-rings on the back. At the discretion of the Gallery, large two-dimensional works not suitable for framing may be attached to walls using pins. If specific pins are required they should be supplied by the artist. Late entries will not be accepted. Arrangements and expenses related to the delivery and collection of entries are the responsibility of the artist (Open Section), student (Tertiary Section) or school (Student Section). Entries will not be accepted unless free of all delivery charges. Return freight must be prepaid. Consignment notes, pre-paid stickers, postage etc must be enclosed with the artwork on delivery. Delivery Dates & Times THURSDAY 20 AUGUST (10AM 5PM) FRIDAY 21 AUGUST (10AM 5PM) SATURDAY 22 AUGUST 1PM 5PM ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS The winners of the Silk Cut Grand Prize in the Open Section, Purchase Prizes in the Open and Tertiary Section, Silk Cut Student Prizes and Commended works will be announced at the official opening of the exhibition on Friday 4 September 2015 at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery. The judges decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. All entrants and family and friends are invited to the opening. A photographer will be present to document the Awards presentation. Any photographs taken on the evening of the Awards presentation may be reproduced in future publications or on the Silk Cut award website. Please advise the Gallery Manager or photographer if you do not wish to be photographed. Winners will also be listed on the Silk Cut website www.silkcutlino.com soon after the Award announcement. 4

PRIZES (OPEN, TERTIARY & STUDENT SECTION) Please see specific entry conditions for your section for full prize details. PEOPLE S CHOICE AWARD The Silk Cut Exhibition People s Choice Award will be awarded to the artist whose print receives the most votes by the general public attending the Silk Cut Award exhibition. The winner of this award can be an from any section (i.e. Open, Tertiary or Student) and will receive a cash prize of $500. The winner will be advised via phone on conclusion of the exhibition. AWARDING OF PRIZES The prize money for all sections including the Grand Prize will be awarded to the winners in January 2016. AWARDS EXHIBITION The 2015 Silk Cut Award exhibition continues at the Glen Eira City Council Gallery from Saturday 5 September until Sunday 20 September 2015. SALE OF WORKS All entries exhibited as finalists in the Open Section must be available for acquisition by the Silk Cut Foundation Collection. Any sales enquiries from the public will be forwarded to the artist. REPRODUCTION OF ENTRIES Entrants selected for exhibition in the Open Section, Tertiary Section and the Student Section of the Silk Cut Award will allow their works to be reproduced in the 2015 Silk Cut Exhibition catalogue and used for promotion directly connected with this and future Silk Cut Award exhibitions and/or associated products and publications. CATALOGUE The 2015 Silk Cut Award illustrated catalogue will be available for purchase from the gallery following the announcement of winners on the opening night. Complimentary copies will be forwarded by mail to all finalists. Catalogues are also available for purchase via the Silk Cut Lino website (www.silkcutlino.com) after the exhibition. COLLECTION & RETURN OF EXHIBITED WORKS Physical Collection of Works MONDAY 21st AND TUESDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER (Between 10am 5pm) Return of Posted Works Works will be re-packed in the packaging in which they were delivered. While all care will be taken with handling, neither the Glen Eira City Council Gallery, the Silk Cut Foundation, nor its agents will accept liability for loss and/or damage arising. 5

UNCOLLECTED ENTRIES A storage fee will be charged for all entries not collected after 5pm on Friday 25th September 2015. If entries are not collected by this date, the uncollected entries will become the property of the Silk Cut Foundation to be disposed of at the discretion of the organisers. Glen Eira City Council Gallery will not be responsible for arranging return bookings with carriers. Failure to provide this information may mean that the entry cannot be accepted for consideration. 6
