Care and Maintenance for Wood Flooring The finishing technology used for Tarkett wood floorings makes them the best choice for easy maintenance. To preserve all the beauty of your Tarkett wood flooring, simply follow very simple protection suggestions. Tarkett wood floorings can be cleaned in three quick and easy steps. 1. Protecting your investment Although your Tarkett wood floorings finish is more resistant to wear than most other finishes on the market, it is not indestructible. With regular preventive maintenance, you will be able to enjoy the beauty of your floor for an extended period of time. 2. We recommend that you: Sweep or vacuum regularly to rid your floor of dust and eliminate abrasives that can scratch the finish. Wipe up any spilled liquid quickly from your floor. Watch out for high heels and some kinds of sport footwear, particularly if they re worn or damaged. Note: Only water and sand are worse enemies of wood flooring than high heel shoes. In fact, high heels can damage any floor covering even cement. Put mates outside and inside entrances to prevent build up of sand and dirt on the floor. Put mats in front of the kitchen sink, the dishwasher, and all kitchen work stations to protect your floor from kitchen mishaps like dropped utensils and spills of water, detergent, and food. Avoid rubber or other dense mat backing that prevent airflow abrasive dirt and moisture. Attach felt pads under any furniture or chair legs to ease movement and prevent scratches. Keep the pads clean and replace if damaged. Protect the floor when moving furniture or heavy objects. Use a mat turned upside down with a slightly smaller piece of plywood on top of it. Place furniture on top and slide it. 1.

Maintain humidity levels between 30 and 60%, for your own health as well as for the protection of your floor and wooden furniture. Wood is a natural material that reacts to relative humidity variations when moisture is absorbed or released. Avoid exposing your floor to sunlight and intense artificial light, which can cause wood to change color. This is a completely normal and natural phenomenon. The lighter the wood, the more pronounced the change will be. Move your carpets and furniture occasionally and use a minimum number of light sources to keep color changes uniform. Note: Color change is not caused by the yellowing of the finish; it is a natural change of the wood's color. 3. Things to avoid: Do not clean or wet mop your floor with water. This can permanently damage the wood flooring. Never pour cleaner or any other liquid directly onto the wood floor surface. Do not use wax, oil based detergents or other household cleaning agents on your wood floorings, since these products may dull or damage finish; leave a greasy film that makes floors slippery, make maintenance more difficult. Do not place potted plants on your wood floorings, condensation can cause damage. Do not raise or lower temperature of subfloor radiant heat system by more than 2.8 C per day when turning system on and off. The wood surface temperature must never exceed 27 C. 2.

FIRST AID FOR WOOD FLOORING Tarkett wood floorings are easy to care for. However, in case of mishaps, a few useful tips will help you preserve all the beauty of your floor. PROBLEMS / MISHAPS EASY SOLUTIONS Food, soft drinks, alcohol etc. Promptly sponge or wipe with damp, well wrung cloth. Spray with Tarkett cleaner to dissolve and wipe off. Sticky, stubborn or dark stains Spray Tarkett cleaner on damp cloth and wipe off. For more stubborn stains, use white vinegar directly on stain, leave for 2 to 3 minutes and scrub vigorously. Still having trouble? Dampen a cloth with a bit of thinner or lighter fluid and wipe stain away. Marks from shoes, rubber casters, etc. Spray Tarkett cleaner on a cloth and wipe off. Grease, oil, lipstick, coloring pencil, etc. Spray Tarkett cleaner on a cloth and wipe off. Chewing gum, candle wax, crayon marks, etc. Apply a plastic bag filled with ice cubes to surface until soiled area hardens and crumbles. Spray Tarkett Clean on a cloth and wipe off. Ink Dampen a cloth with a bit of thinner or lighter fluid and wipe stain away. Surface scratches or cigarette burns Use Tarkett Touch repair kit. Deep scratches, major problems Replace damaged board. 3.

REPLACE DAMAGED BOARD One of the numerous advantages of prefinished wood floorings is how easy it is to replace a damaged board. Replacing damaged floor boards is quick, clean and inexpensive compared to in depth sanding and finishing. It only takes about 15 to 20 minutes per board, which is why we suggest keeping a few boards on hand after installation. Picture 1: In case of serious damages of your wooden floor (scratches, or damages resulting from impact of heavy or sharp objects), the easiest and the most efficient way to repair it is to change damaged board. Picture 6: The new board that will be installed, must be prepared first. After you checked the board size, saw off the underside of the short ends and long side, but be careful not to damage top surface and not to remove board tongue. Picture 2: Change of damaged board is done in following way: First cut off the board with circular saw, but be sure that you set the sawing depth max. as thickness of wood flooring (in this case 14 mm). After that saw a V from each corner, and than saw from short end to short end to connect these V cuts. Picture 7: Preparation of layers is done by spreading glue on a thin laminated foil, or on a piece of veneer, firs spreading the glue on veneer below the neighbouring boards, and after that spreading glue on a part of veneer which should fix the new board. Picture 3: Remove the center section from the board. To be sure not to damage the neighbouring boards, use a chisel and manually extend the cut all to edges of neighbouring boards. Picture 8: After that spread the glue on a free profile of neighbouring boards and on tongue on board. Picture 4: Remove the short ends, and then remove the long sides which are connected with neighbouring boards. Picture 9: Install the board. Picture 5: Vacuum carefully all wood dust and smaller wooden parts, to make area free and prepared for laying new board. Picture 10: Use weights to press it down for at least three hours, to be sure that the board is well fixed glued on neighbouring boards. 4.

To make sure that your wood flooring stays beautiful and ages with style, Tarkett has developed some of the best cleaning and maintenance products in the world. The products have been developed to work optimally with our range of wood floorings treated with Proteco Lacquer and Proteco Natura. Tarkett Refresher Tarkett Refresher cleans and protects the varnish on your wooden floors. Tarkett Refresher contains microscopic varnish pigments that will reinforce varnished surfaces and remove thin scratches. The treatment will slightly increase the gloss level and shine of the floor and give a completely new appearance. If you so wish you can also apply Tarkett Refresher on newly installed wooden floors as the product penetrates the joints between the boards and provides a certain amount of moisture sealing. Tarkett Cleaner Tarkett Cleaner is used for regular damp mopping and can be used to clean all types of varnished or oiled wooden floors.
