System Area Management Software Tool Tip: Integrating into NetIQ AppManager Overview: This document provides an overview of how to integrate System Area Management's event logs with NetIQ's AppManager. Requirements: NetIQ AppManager installed on a Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 system. The following is a description of the configuration used in this document: Windows Server 2003 operating system with IIS and ASP.NET installed. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 running SP3A in both Windows authentication mode and SQL authentication mode. A SMC/SML/SMA installed on a system running AppManager itself or the NetIQ agent. At least one system running a SMC managing the other SML/SMA systems. This system is required to configure the SML/SMA to write events to the NT Event Log. Benefits: Provides instructions on how to configure NetIQ's AppManager to collect System Area Management's events that are posted to the NT Event Log. 1
Step by Step Guide: 1. Start NetIQ s AppManager Operator Console. Expand Master on the left to show the machines in your repository. Right-click one of the machines that are currently running the SMA/SML and click Create Jobs... 2. Expand ASYNC and choose Async_NTEventLogRx. Click ok. 2
3. Configure the advanced properties as shown: 4. Click the Objects tab and select all machines you want to collect System Area Management event logs from. 3
5. Click the Values tab and configure as shown: 6. Click ok. Verify the status of the job by clicking the Jobs tab at the bottom: 4
7. Configure the systems using the SMC to report the system event log: 8. Click the events tab at the bottom to see accumulated events: 5
9. Double-click on any event to reveal its properties: 10.Click the message tab for even more detail: 11.You can also view these events by using NetIQ's web interface. Browse to http://<servername>/netiq. The login is dependent on your server setup (by default, the NetIQ repository is QDB). 6
12.After login, you should be viewing the Master Computers page. Click the number under the Open Events column: 13.On the parent events window, you should see a single entry for the Knowledge Script Async_NTEventLogRx. If you do not see this entry, try changing the Filtered by option to Show All: 14.Click the box with a plus in it all the way on the left for the Knowledge Script Async_NTEventLogRx: 7
