Marketing automation is a technology platform for marketers to create, nurture, and pass leads to sales. Most marketing automation platforms (MAPs) have functions for email marketing, social media, contact list management, forms, landing pages, website tracking, and reporting. Marketers use this technology to execute marketing campaigns in a scale that provide a customized experience to their audiences. What s the difference between email marketing and marketing automation? Email marketing tools like ConstantContact and MailChimp offer just a tiny slice of the functionality marketing automation provides. Here are some of the key advantages of marketing automation over email marketing tools: Automated and Dynamic Recipient Lists When sending a campaign through marketing automation, there s no need to manually pull a list from your database, open Excel to customize it, or upload the list to your email marketing tool. You have the ability to reference both your marketing automation database and your CRM database within the same platform you send your emails from. This allows you to evaluate field data from all your records in order to easily build tight segmentations.
