KATARZYNA ZYGADLEWICZ a graduate of the State College of Fine Arts in Poznań in the faculty of Graphics Arts and Sculpture (1981). Over the 80's she co-operates with an independent art gallery - Galeria Polony - that unites the artists of the so called "New Expression" (Poznań). Her fascination with signs and symbols as well as Eastern Arts could be seen in her cycles on paper and canvas. The artist often experiments with fabrics (cycles "Washed out Pictures", "Flamenco", "In the theater's side", "Gates and Passages"). Over the years she successfully presents her works in Sweden and Germany. In the mid 90's creates a set of monumental flag-paintings ("End of the Century - Meeting of Cultures"), which since then have frequently been presented in Poland and abroad. Hundreds of meters of fabric typed with signs and symbols were used as a base for the flag-paintings displayed both outdoors and in sacral interiors (e.g. Ministry in Wolgast, Synagogue Pod Białym Bocianem in Wrocław). In fact, the idea to bring together different cultures and religions proceeds the subsequent actions taken by the politicians. The conclusion of her actions is the 15x28m large "Sztandar Pojednania" (the "Banner of Reconcilliation"), displayed on the forefront of Sukiennice building in Wrocław for the city millennium celebration in 2000. Afterwards, Katarzyna Zygadlewicz mostly engages in painting activity. In 2003, after a six month stay in the Rocky Mountaind, the artist changes her colour palette. Her paintings characterise now with evident colors, visible factures and perfection of composition. As Grażyna Banaszkiewicz puts it "Katarzyna Zygadlewicz is strong but sensible and open for madness, also in terms of art. Her canvas show the heat of vigorous lines, brushes, spatulas or hands, since she lays paint in all these manners during her creating expression. She is not afraid of the extent of the canvas, nor density or saturation of the paint". The artist had numerous exhibitions in Poland and abroad (Marocco, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Italy and the USA). The artist works in cycles.
