The research or creative activity conducted by the student generally takes the form of directed research, independent study, or work on an honors thesis under the direct supervision of a faculty member, rather than work conducted to fulfill regular course or seminar requirements. Honors Societies and Clubs Students have the opportunity to get involved on campus by joining one of the 300 student organizations. Student organizations at FAU include honors, academic, special interest and student government programs like: Golden Key International Honor Society FAU Pre-Law Society Accounting Students Association Omicron Delta Kappa Phi Kappa Phi Undergraduate Research at Florida Atlantic University Few activities are as rewarding as research. In addition to the acquisition of invaluable research skills, students learn how knowledge is created and how that knowledge can be overturned with new evidence or new perspectives. They also learn how to work independently, how to overcome obstacles, and the importance of ethics and personal conduct in the research process. Undergraduate research takes place in every discipline not only the life sciences and physical sciences but the humanities, social sciences, and creative and performing arts. Undergraduate Research Symposium Students engaged in undergraduate research may present their findings either through a poster presentation or an oral presentation during the Undergraduate Research Symposium. For more information about undergraduate research opportunities, visit www.fau.edu/deanugstudies

Florida Atlantic University Undergraduate Research Journal (FAURJ) The FAURJ is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal established by the Council for Scholarship and Inquiry. The FAURJ will afford undergraduate students the opportunity to convert research and creative projects into publishable, scholarly papers. The goals of the FAURJ are to showcase high-quality undergraduate research, provide students a better understanding of research and publishing standards, and promote inquiry-based activities at FAU. Application Process An invitation to join either the University Honors Program or the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College may be offered upon admission. We encourage students to apply to one or both of the programs if they do not receive an invitation. A supplemental application and resume are required. Most of the students who are accepted into these honors programs will have a composite SAT score of 1800 or higher with all 3 sections (26 or higher on the ACT) and a high school grade point average of at least 3.8, but all applications will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
