StoreGrid Cloud Import and Export Resellers and Managed Service Providers often run into slow backup transfer rates especially if the bandwidth is low between the client and the StoreGrid Cloud Online Backup Servers. Depending up on the upload bandwidth available in the customer s site, this initial backup of large backup sets could take days, if not weeks. Or more importantly, Customers would like to restore data quickly from the StoreGrid Cloud in case of disaster recovery of their critical machines. There again the time involved in restoring the data over the wire may not be acceptable to customers. StoreGrid Cloud provides Resellers and Managed Service Providers a StoreGrid Cloud Import facility where you can run the backups from the Customers machines to a local disk and ship that disk to Amazon AWS team. Amazon AWS team will attach the disk to their Amazon Cloud AWS infrastructure and let StoreGrid team know. StoreGrid team will then import the data from the disk into the your account in StoreGrid Cloud server under the appropriate Customer and arrange for shipping back the disk to you. Similarly during restore, a service request can be created to have the backup data How does it Work
1. MSP or the Reseller sends service request through an email to StoreGrid team at StoreGridCloud-support@vembu.com. The email should have the following details: Serial Number of the Disk you will be shipping. Make sure the disk is one of the supported devices. Approximate size of the backup data in disk. Address to which you want the disk to be shipped back 2. StoreGrid Team will reply back with a PDF file with the Signature Barcode and instructions for shipping the disk. 3. Install StoreGrid client in the machine that needs to be backed up. Configure backups to the disk that you will be shipping. You can run backups from multiple client machines into the same disk. The disk that you are shipping can have up to 16TB of data. Please note: Once the backup is completed, before detaching the drive from the client machine, make sure the backup is suspended. Here are the steps: 1. Log into client s web console page and select 'Backup -> Add Backup' from the top menu. 2. Select the Backup Type as Local Backup in Step 3 and select the external drive location for the Local Backup Location. After entering all the other backup details, save the backup schedule. 3. Run the backup, check the progress and make sure the backup runs to completion. 4. When the backup is complete, suspend the backup schedule from the Backup -> List Backup Schedules page. THIS IS IMPORTANT. 5. Disconnect the external drive from the client machine.. 4. Print out and paste the Barcode on the disk that you shipping. Follow the instructions in the PDF to ship the disk. Make sure you also ship the disk s power adapters, required cables also. 5. Can backup data from multiple clients be imported through the same disk? Yes. You run any number of backups from multiple client machines into the same disk and import it in one shot. Like for example say you have 2 customers each having 3 client machines to be backed up. You can take the disk and attached it in each of the client machines one by one and run the backups. But make sure all the backups from the 6 clients are in the same 1/ folder in the disk: 1/clientID1/ 1/clientID2/. Just make sure the size of the data in the disk doesn t exceed 16TB 5. What is the maximum size that the shipped disk can have? 16 TB
