How to qualify Step one - Registration You register and pay online, through the Associate website www.rics.org/associate. Step two Assessment plan Once the registration is complete you will be shown your assessment plan. This plan will set out your requirements for the Associate Assessment. Step three Portfolio of evidence Evidence of work-based experience and structured development is recorded on the Managed Learning Environment (MLE) Step four Associate Assessment Once you have met all the requirements outlined in your assessment plan you will be ready for Associate Assessment Step five Ethics module 20 multiple choice questions, you must get 15 correct to pass. The questions are based around the RICS 12 ethical standards. 4

Joining RICS: MRICS for graduates Route Previous qualification Previous experience APC training Graduate 1 RICS accredited degree course 0-5 years work experience 24 months structured training (can be concurrent with postgraduate course), leading to Final Assessment Graduate 2 RICS accredited degree course 5-10 years work experience 12 months structured training (can be concurrent with postgraduate course), leading to Final Assessment Graduate 3 RICS accredited degree course 10 years work experience Straight to Final Assessment Is my degree accredited? Professional Experience Route From Autumn 2011 Candidate requirements, as a minimum: A full bachelor s degree or equivalent professional qualification 5 years of relevant experience post degree which demonstrates: Advanced application of a broad range/depth of technical competencies Responsibility for working on complex assets/projects and sign off High level of business acumen + some level of management capability Responsibility for providing recommendations/reasoned strategic advice to clients 9
