SQL Server 2014 Key Capabilities In-Memory Built-In 12
SQL Server 2014 Key Capabilities Multi-tenant Management 13
SQL Server 2014 Key Capabilities Isolation between different workloads for for different customers Guarantee certain levels of of allocation of of shared resources to to provide provide consistent consistent and predictable and predictable performance performance Better isolation (CPU, memory, and IO) for multi-tenant workloads Guarantee performance both in private cloud and hosters scenario Max/Min IOPS per volume DMVs and Perf counters for IO statistics per pool per volume Update SSMS Intellisense for new T-SQL 14
SQL Server 2014 Key Capabilities Contained Database A database that is isolated from other databases and from the instance of SQL Server that hosts the database Making easier to migrate databases from one server to another Secure user access to the contained database in a multi-tenant environment A contained database user can access only contained database objects. They cannot access system databases and cannot access server objects. Metadata is stored on the contained database and not stored on system databases. This makes contained databases more portable Contained database users can be Windows and SQL Server authentication users. Much of the metadata that describes a database is maintained in the database. (In addition to, or instead of, maintaining metadata in the master database.) All metadata are defined using the same collation User authentication can be performed by the database, reducing the databases dependency on the logins of the instance of SQL Server The SQL Server environment (DMV's, XEvents, etc.) reports and can act upon containment information 15
Cloud Platform Suite What is the Cloud Platform Suite? The Microsoft Cloud Platform Suite is a new licensing offer from Microsoft that will be available for Service Providers in the SPLA channel, starting January 2014. How do I get the bits for the Cloud Platform Suite? The bits for Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2, and Windows Azure Pack will be available on the Volume License Service Center (VLSC). More info about Volume License Service Center here. 16
Cloud Platform Suite Licensing Intended to be run in highly virtualized environments Host Licensed Separately Guest Per Instance Instance Rights Linux VMs The host component is licensed separately to and includes the Windows Server and System Center 2012 R2 host features + Windows Azure Pack (WAP) The guest is licensed per instance and can be run on any processor that is licensed for the CPS host The guest license will give customers the rights to run 1 instance of Windows Server and for the instance to be managed by System Center 2012 R2 No guest fee is charged for Linux VMs running on the Cloud Platform Suite host 17
End User Facility installations Server Hardware may be deployed at End Customers premises. Customer may locate servers ( Servers ) containing Products on an End User s premises ( End User Facility ) solely to provide Software Services to the End User, provided that the Servers remain under the day to day management and control of the Customer. (=Service Provider) Upon request, Customer will promptly identify the number of Servers located at each End User Facility and the Products installed on said Servers.
