Care in the Community You may find that you want or need to live in a place other than your home. It can be helpful to know about community care options. They are: Adult Foster Homes Adult foster homes are private homes with family-style living. They offer room, board, and physical care for up to five people. NorthWest Senior and Disability Services licenses, inspects, and monitors these homes in Clatsop, Marion, Polk, Tillamook, and Yamhill counties. Assisted Living Facilities Assisted living facilities have private apartments with a bathroom and small kitchen. They offer dining room meals, housekeeping, physical care, and call systems for 24-hour care. They are licensed and regulated by the Department of Human Services, Aging and People with Disabilities. 11 12

Residential Care Facilities Residential care facilities are group settings that offer room, board, supervision, and physical care for six or more people. They offer either a shared or private room. They do not have to offer private bathrooms or kitchens. They are licensed and regulated by the Department of Human Services, Aging and People with Disabilities. Nursing Facilities Nursing facilities provide nursing care 24 hours a day in a medical setting. They offer services such as on-site physical rehabilitation, recovery after being in the hospital for a serious illness or injury, and restorative services. In Oregon, all people must be screened before entering a nursing facility. This is called a pre-admission screening. The screening is free and helps to make sure a nursing facility is the right fit for your care needs. Nursing facilities are licensed and regulated by the Department of Human Services, Aging and People with Disabilities.
