Following the Spring 2016 semester, applications will be reviewed. All required components are weighted, and all weighted parts will be combined for a total score. These scores will then be ranked, and the top total scores will be selected for the program. In the case that two applicants end up with the same final score, the essay is used as a tie breaker. Applicants with the top total scores will be given information regarding orientation and registration. In addition, the next five to ten applicants next in line will be considered alternates in the case that one or more of the selected candidates do not or cannot register for the program. All applicants will receive written notification of their status. Accepted and alternate applicants must respond by the indicated date on the acceptance letter. Failure to respond by the indicated date will result in cancellation of the acceptance. What Happens If I Am Offered Admissions to the Program? Orientation - Registration All accepted clinical applicants will receive written notification regarding the specific date, time, and location of orientation. At that time, students will be given information regarding registration for ASN clinical courses, book lists, and other requirements. If the accepted applicant does not attend this mandatory orientation or make prior arrangements, it will be assumed the applicant is declining the conditional acceptance to the program. Medical Forms Due to the nature of the program, specific requirements must be met prior to enrollment into ASN. Students will be subject to random drug testing at various times throughout the ASN program to meet requirements of clinical sites. Schedule and Work Recommendations Due to the fast pace, challenging, and rigorous academic demands of the ASN program, the nursing faculty urge students to avoid full-time work commitments. Clinical schedules are subject to last-minute revisions each semester. Clinical rotations are scheduled at a variety of clinical sites that may be over 20 miles or more from campus. Therefore, students personal commitments must remain flexible to meet course objectives and accommodate program requirements. Reliable transportation is needed due to the distance to some of the clinical sites. Advanced Standing/Re-entry (Prior Nursing Credits) Prior to applying for advanced standing/re-entry to the nursing program, the student must meet all general admission criteria and be fully admitted to the college for the requested semester of entry. Fletcher Technical Community College ASN program admits classes once a year and does not have additional classes specifically for advanced standing students. Students seeking credit from previous nursing courses must provide the syllabus, have completed the course within two (2) years and have earned a minimum grade of C (80) on a 7-point scale in the course. Advanced standing students may be required to pass a placement test and/or repeat previous coursework. If an applicant has prior nursing credits and wishes to apply for advanced standing into the nursing program, he/she must meet with the Dean of Nursing or Department Head prior to turning in this application. Appointments are made by calling (985)876-8900. Advanced standing application deadlines are found on our website. What if I am Accepted? Although a student may be accepted into the clinical portion of the program, the Louisiana State Board of Nursing may deny eligibility to enter/progress in clinical nursing courses based on prior criminal activity and/or positive drug screen Fletcher Technical Community College Nursing department must comply with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing s decisions. Once a candidate becomes an ASN clinical student, all ASN policies and procedures must be followed. Any ASN clinical student admitted into the program will be required to pass a level appropriate mathematic/pharmacology exam before each clinical rotation. In addition, ASN clinical students only have two opportunities to take any nursing course(s) at Fletcher. Any student who has a second failed attempt (whether the student resigns from the program or does not successfully complete the course/program), will have to wait 5 years before reapplying to the program.
