There are no formal exams at this level, but the children are given regular tests by the class teacher to assess their progress. The children are working towards Level 4 of the National Curriculum which correlates closely to the French programme. The teachers have agreed that certain areas of maths will be studied in French, and others in the language sections, e.g. geometry will be done in French. In the programme the children are expected to become familiar with times tables up to 10 x 10 and carry out more mental arithmetic than in the French programme. Programme/Syllabus: Recognising and using numbers up to 1000 and beyond Recognising and using mathematical symbols, e.g. more than, less than, brackets Sorting numbers into sets Counting in 10 s, 100 s Carrying out calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division Recognising odd and even numbers
