At present, Hawthorn Center has capacity for 118 patients. The Center is an agency of the Michigan Department of Community Health. Children between the ages of five to seventeen who reside in Michigan, who have severe emotional and/or behavioral disorders and who have not been successfully treated in other settings, may be eligible for inpatient treatment. Hawthorn Center does not provide services to children whose primary diagnoses is 3

developmental disability, substance abuse, or juvenile delinquency. Services may be provided to children who have secondary problems in these areas under certain conditions. Referrals are accepted only from the Community Mental Health Services Provider which serves the county in which the child lives. Care at Hawthorn Center is eligible for reimbursement by many health insurance companies. The Administrative Rules for the Michigan Mental Health Code set the payment schedule for those services not covered by insurance.
