Degrees in Criminal Justice In local communities and around the world, the field of criminal justice continues to be increasingly complex and in high demand for qualified professionals. For this reason, many criminal justice positions now require a bachelor s degree for entry and a graduate degree to qualify for promotion. To answer the need for more expertise in the legal, social, political and managerial aspects of criminal justice, Grand Canyon University offers both bachelor s and master s degree programs in this rewarding field. The Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies prepares students to enter careers in law enforcement, governmental and private agencies, research, social work, political science and a variety of other fields. Graduates will be able to describe the components of the justice system from a systems perspective, including function, organization, practices and interrelationship of law enforcement agencies, the courts and the corrections system. The Master of Science in Criminal Justice Programs expand the student s understanding of the law, social order and justice. Criminal justice graduates are equipped to more effectively perform as criminal justice professionals, successfully manage law-related functions and strategically lead law enforcement organizations. Grand Canyon University offers two master s in criminal justice programs; one with an emphasis in law enforcement and the other with a focus on legal studies. Master of Science in Criminal Justice with an Emphasis in Law Enforcement The Master s in Criminal Justice with an Emphasis in Law Enforcement is particularly suited for law enforcement personnel, including corrections, probation and parole officers. * For more information about our graduation rates, the median debt of students who completed the program, and other important information, please visit our website at gcu.edu/disclosures. Master of Science in Criminal Justice with an Emphasis in Legal Studies The Master s in Criminal Justice with an Emphasis in Legal Studies takes a closer look at constitutional issues, international law and legal research. Criminal justice jobs are projected to increase through 2018, which means there will be an abundance of openings for criminal justice graduates. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Employment of private detectives and investigators is expected to grow 22 percent over the 2008-18 decade, much faster than the average for all occupations. * This increase is due to the growing need to protect information and property, heightened security concerns and increased litigation. * U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos157.htm#outlook
