The training enables teachers, parents and carers to assist children in identifying situations where they feel safe in order to differentiate when they feel unsafe and know how to seek assistance from trusted people. Children with a disability are heavily over represented in child abuse statistics. They are amongst the most vulnerable people in our community and the risk of them being the target of abusive behaviours is extremely high. The Wise Child Disability and Special Needs program, educates children and young people to identify situations where they feel safe in order to differentiate when they feel unsafe and know how to seek assistance from trusted people. Networks of trusted people are developed to ensure there are a range of people that the child feels they can ask for help. Professional Boundaries Professional boundaries are essential in maintaining safe and appropriate relationships between professional staff/ volunteers and children.
