VialSafe DHL VialSafe UN3373 Packaging Solutions

The DHL VialSafe pack is a complete packaging system certified to meet the strict requirements of ICAO/IATA packing instructions PI650 for the safe transportation of UN3373 classified substances. At DHL we understand the importance of ensuring the safe shipping of biological samples such as human or animal materials, including excreta, secreta, blood, tissue and tissue fluids. Our objective is to deliver these special shipments safely to their destinations in the same good condition as we receive them from you. A key element in successfully doing so, is ensuring that the packaging used is compliant to the regulations governing the transport of these substances, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations. Regulatory requirements, ICAO/IATA packing instructions PI650, liquid substances. The Primary receptacle must be leakproof and must not contain more than 1L substance. The secondary packaging must be leakproof. The outer packaging must be rigid and at least one surface of the outer packaging must have a minimum dimension of 100 mm x 100 mm (4 in x 4 in). It must not contain more than 4L substance (quantity excludes ice, dry ice or liquid nitrogen when used for cooling purposes.) Generally, if multiple fragile primary receptacles are placed in a single secondary packaging, they must be either individually wrapped or separated to prevent contact between them. Absorbent material must be placed between primary and secondary packaging. An itemized list of contents must be enclosed between the secondary packaging and the outer packaging. Regarding tests, the primary receptacle or the secondary packaging must be capable of withstanding, without leakage, an internal pressure of 95 kpa in the range of -40 C to +55 C (-40 F to +130 F). The complete package must be capable of successfully passing the drop test described in 6.6.1 of the IATA Instructions and the height of the drop must not be less than 1.2 m (4 ft). Compliance The complete DHL VialSafe packs successfully passed the required drop test and their secondary packaging successfully passed the 95kPa hydraulic pressure test at -40 C and +55 C. These tests were performed by the UN approved Belgian Packaging Institute (BVI) and conformity is guaranteed under test number DHL/IBE-BVI G-06.090, printed on the packaging.
