The Parenting Center at Yale University is a treatment facility that has been providing services for over 30 years. The clinic is under the direction of Alan E. Kazdin, Ph.D., Past President of the American Psychological Association. We work with families whose children have disruptive behavior disorders that include oppositional, aggressive, and antisocial behavior. Children range in age 2-15. Our Certification Program The Yale Parenting Center is excited to announce our certification program in Dr. Alan Kazdin s Parent Management Training (KPMT). Clinicians who become certified will greatly benefit their own clients with this evidence-based method for dealing with difficult behavioral issues. A therapist who s certified in PMT can effectively and quickly help parents to create lasting and beneficial changes in their children. Our certification program is quick and convenient as it can be done online or here at our clinic. We welcome any clinician who is interested in learning the most current strategies for difficult behavior that has been proven to work and supported by decades of research. Evidence-based Many states are now mandated to only use treatment programs that are evidence-based, that is, proven to work. Insurance companies are starting to follow suit. The therapists at the center teach families effective strategies through the use of evidence-based treatments called Parent Management Training (PMT). The strategies our clients learn revolve around the use of positive reinforcement, antecedents, practice, and problem solving. The treatment greatly improves pro-social behavior as well as decreases children s oppositional and aggressive behavior. The treatment and its effects have been documented in many studies with 78% of parent s reporting significant improvement in their children s behavior. We have worked with thousands of families, and have helped parents make considerable changes in how they respond to very difficult, often provocative, behaviors. We now offer clinicians certification in Parent Management Training so that, they too, can effectively help their clients use an approach that has been backed up by decades of research.

These skills can methodically and effectively help such issues as; poor academics, truancy, lying, stealing, major aggression within the school or home, defiance, as well as the milder issues such as potty training, bedtime, or getting dressed. Advantages of PMT Certification The addition of an evidence-based treatment to your repertoire that has been proven to significantly improve child behaviors. Training is individualized.
