Miami University Graduation Survey 2014 2015 College of Professional Studies and Applied Sciences Bachelor s Degree Recipients The Graduation Survey asks degree candidates about their experiences while attending Miami and their postgraduation plans. Participants included 177 students who received a bachelor s degree from the College of Professional Studies and Applied Sciences (CPSAS) in 2014 15 (55.5% response rate). Students completed the survey online, during their final semester at Miami. Detailed results for the CPSAS bachelor s degree recipients, including historical comparisons, are attached. Additional results for other degree recipients are available online at: www.miamioh.edu/oir/surveys/graduationsurvey. Future Plans Because students complete the Graduation Survey prior to graduation, information about their future plans is considered preliminary. Complete information on recent graduates' career and educational placement will be available through the New Alumni Success Project (previously called the Post Graduation Follow Up Project). Details on the New Alumni Success Project are available at www.miamioh.edu/oir/surveys/post graduation. When asked about their plans for next fall, 21.5% of students plan to attend school (compared to 26.9% of 13 14 graduates); 19.8% plan to attend graduate school, 0.6% professional school, and 2.8% plan to pursue additional undergraduate study. Of those planning to attend graduate or professional school: o 53.1% plan to pursue a master s level degree, 12.5% plan to pursue a research doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD), and 15.6% plan to pursue a professional doctoral degree (e.g., MD, JD, DVM). o The majority (77.1%) had not yet applied to a program but plan to do so within the next year. The majority of students (93.8%) also plan to work after graduation; 80.8% plan to work full time in their field of study, and 13.0% plan to work full time outside their field of study. o Among students who had begun searching for employment, 66.4% had received at least one offer of employment or were already working by the time they completed the survey. o Among students who had accepted an offer of employment or were already working, 95.0% had been previously employed with the company. o Only 49.2% of students with a job or job offer obtained a position that required a bachelor s degree, while 31.1% had a position that required an associate s degree and 16.4% would be in a position that required no college degree. o The median salary range for participants who had secured a full time position was the same as last year, at $50,000 $59,999; compared to last year, there was an increase in the percentage of graduates who would be earning $60,000 or more per year (from 38.9% to 45.5%). 87.8% of the students plan to live in Ohio after graduation. Experiences at Miami 94.0% of the students agreed or strongly agreed that their classes at Miami were intellectually challenging. Many students participated in educationally beneficial activities while at Miami University. For example: o 55.0% worked on an independent study project (up from 39.7% last year). o 28.0% participated in an internship or co op (up from 26.3% last year). o 32.2% worked with a faculty member on a research project (up from 27.9% last year). Many students reported working while attending Miami: 18.3% worked part time on campus, 41.4% worked part time off campus, and 54.4% worked full time while attending classes. 26.6% of students reported being an active participant in a student organization/club while at Miami.
