The average doctor makes a good living, the smart doctor collects it. The ever-evolving healthcare system continues to create challenges for the medical office. Patient care, technology, software, legislation and the growing variety of health insurance coverage plans are key elements that must be brought together. Running a medical practice has become a complicated and costly operation. Medical office personnel have so many responsibilities and in most cases, not enough time can be devoted to perform a single task well. Customer service and cash flow ultimately suffer. We help medical offices by providing Billing and administrative services as well as staff training. The Claims Manager is a proud member of the American Academy of Professional Coders, New Jersey Association of Business Owners, Southern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, and Howell Chamber of Commerce. Our Instructors Maria Sanders, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I President & Founder, The Claims Manager, Inc. Maria has 25 years of clinical and administrative experience in the healthcare industry. She has served 20 years as a U.S. Army medic and is a Past President of the AAPC Monmouth-Ocean Chapter. Maria's vast teaching background has included clientele such Meridian Health System, University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ and the Women s Business Center. Nancy Clark, CPC, CPC-I Director, HBRC Nancy is a member of the Highmark Medicare Services Provider Outreach and Education Advisory Group. She has also instructed in the Medical Coding and Billing Program at Brookdale Community College and is a Past President of the AAPC Monmouth-Ocean Chapter. Nancy was selected as a finalist for AAPC National Coder of the Year in 2010.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for CPC Prep Course Do I need computer knowledge and a computer at home to take this class? No. Computer knowledge and software are tools used for coding and billing. They may increase your chances of employment; however, they are not needed to learn coding. Do I need medical experience? No, but it would certainly help. The program is fast-paced and we recommend medical terminology and anatomy & physiology resources to help prepare the student. This is specifically why we created the 10-Week Prep Course which starts off with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Job availability and average salary? Healthcare remains a strong industry during these tough economic times. A highly recognized national certification such as CPC gives an applicant an advantage. Like any industry, an employer may want experienced applicants. AAPC offers an externship program as well as networking opportunities in local chapters all over the country. The Monmouth-Ocean Chapter meets every month in Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune, NJ. For more information about the chapter, visit www.monmouthnjcoders.org. For salary studies visit www.aapc.com. What is the difference between online, classroom, vocational or community college coding programs? How do I choose? Different learning environments may be effective for different people. Online instruction offers flexibility of schedule because you can do it at your own time and pace as long as you have the discipline to do this. The classroom offers interaction with other students and instructors for immediate feedback on questions. Program content, length and cost are other big factors. Program content may include computer training which you may or may not need. Program length can be weeks to months depending on the focus of the training. Does the program include national certification and administer the exam? Consider the qualifications and experience of instructors. - 8 - Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Preparation Course The CPC Prep Course was developed and is maintained by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), the nation s largest medical coding training and certification organization (www.aapc.com). The CPC Prep Course is the core material studied in preparation for the CPC Exam. It includes medical coding fundamentals and applications. The CPC Exam is a 5 hour and 40 minute exam comprised of 150 multiple choice questions. It is an open book exam (coding manuals) and includes one free retake. HBRC offers several CPC Prep Course Programs to accommodate different levels of experience (Beginner and Intermediate), as well as a variety of student schedules (Weekday morning, Weekday evening and Weekend Programs).
