NGO Members 5 Activities Highlights Findings on ehealth Sharing Record Target participants: healthcare professionals, esp private practitioners Examine the awareness and readiness of healthcare professionals and organizations on ehr sharing As an follow up on the survey in 009 Clinic Computerization Readiness of Private Medical Practitioners Questionnaire survey distributed through HK Medical Association and HK Doctors Union Private Practitioners in HK: approx. 4000 7 8

Questionnaire Compared to last year, the details of question has increased by 35% Encouraged participants to respond online Topics covered Recognition, Support and Readiness for ehr Development Program Advantages, Incentives and Hurdles of ehr Sharing Concerns on private doctors Result Received 168 completed questionnaires 67% were willing to make their response online 9 10 Respondents Profile 63% were physicians, while others are healthcare professionals (e.g. Radiologist, Physiotherapist, etc.) 45% were physicians with over 10 years experience 60% were from private healthcare clinics/organizations Approximately half (47%) are from clinics with less than 10 staffs 67% Male / 33% Female Awareness and Supportiveness Recognition on territory-wide ehr sharing 61% heard of the ehr Development Program (10-year Plan) 90% think Hong Kong needs territory-wide ehr sharing 88% think territory-wide ehr sharing will be an improvement to the current healthcare system 7% from private solo practice - sharing ehr currently, including: 65% share within the organization 1% share with allied practices 4% share view HA patient record only (with patient s consent) 83% were the sole decision maker (or involved in the decision process) to share/not share ehr at their workplace 11 1

About ehealth Training 54% are willing to attend relevant ehealth trainings 18% are willing to nominate staff to attend relevant ehealth trainings Interested topics (5.00 is the highest score) 1 How and where to get healthcare service update 3.8 How and where to get IT services and support 3.9 Demonstration of clinical and admin systems 4.0 Benefits and worldwide trend in ehealth 3.5 Private Doctors Opinions To urge the Government to provide funding support for the related training programs and technical support services IT industry may provide more applications and solutions related to system management and Provide a platform for technical assistance on ehr sharing to the private sector in the healthcare industry 17 18 Conclusions The Public & IT Industry Patients and the IT sector play equally important roles Patients can check whether the clinics they visit have participated in Public-Private- Interface Electronic Patient Record Sharing Pilot Project (PPI-ePR) or the Validation Platform pilot project to ensure treatments and diagnosis are, and will be, efficient and accurate IT industry should continue to provide more applications and solutions related to system management and operation of healthcare services in the private sector, and provide assistance to the practitioners in choosing the auxiliary software in the market to ease their concerns on ehr sharing. The Government The Consortium hopes that the departments will continue to allocate appropriate resources to facilitate system computerization in the private healthcare sector. Together with the support from IT sector in providing more system services and information to private doctors, the Consortium believe that the confidence of private doctors will be strengthened, allowing early participation in ehr Program and further improvements in our healthcare system.
