Administrative History: The founding of the Samuel Chase Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution on June 28, 1933 began the work of a small group of women to serve the local community, as well as the nation at large; the chapter was founded to create a community of patriotic women from Wicomico County who were dedicated to preserving American history and furthering the education of the county s youth. Over the years, the chapter has increased its membership and its financial assistance to education, local history projects, as well as contributing to the national society s programming. Additionally, the Samuel Chase Chapter has held functions to promote American history, patriotism, and education. Arrangement Statement: The Samuel Chase Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution records has been arranged in three series: ADMINISTRATIVE, ORGANIZATIONAL ACTIVITIES, and VISUAL MATERIALS. The administrative series documents the administrative duties of the chapter s officers, including meeting minutes, financial records, correspondence, and membership activities. The administrative files also include administrative records from the Maryland State DAR chapter. The organizational activities series documents the programming and events conducted by the Samuel Chase Chapter, as well as information from the state and national chapters. Finally, the visual materials series documents the activities of the chapter through scrapbooks and photographs.
