IV Study period The basic study period is 3-years. V Requirements of the training methods and learning progress 1. Training methods Combine Mentor responsibility system with guidance from tutor groups. [The group is made up by mentors, Ph.D. supervisors in the discipline and associate professors or above (doctorate) that being invited.] 2. Requirements of the learning progress i Comprehensive Examination: The course study period is a year and a half, if the selected courses passed the appraisal, the Ph.D. candidates will take the disciplinary comprehensive examination and then do the paper opening report after appraisal. ii Topic-choosing Report: To ensure the cutting-edge and novelty of the topics while avoid the repetition of the same professional direction, firstly the doctoral
student will be asked to choose topic and do literature reading report in the mentor group conference to get topic-choosing guidance in the discipline field. iii Interim Report: Students independently complete the study course after the opening report. In to enhance and supervise doctoral research capacity and ensure the quality of dissertation research, students should do the interim report within the mentor group before the pre-defense (at least 4 months) to make the research findings scientific and rigorous. iv Doctoral students who have completed the interim report and academic lecturer once can enter the pre-preparation of the pre-defense. 3. Strengthen the learning style construction and discipline yourself strictly and abide by academic ethics and academic standards. Abide by academic ethics and academic standards and discipline oneself strictly should be carried out in all study links of the PhD phase: be practical, serious and hard-working in study and comply with classroom discipline; be honest and serious in the examination and comply with the examination rules; be rigorous and meticulous in academic research, don t adore reputation, comply with academic norms; don t plagiarize in essay writing and publishing, don t impersonate others research, abide by academic ethics, discipline oneself strictly. Ⅵ Knowledge structure and the basic requirements of the course study. 1. The basic requirements of the knowledge structure Students must master the fundamental theoretical knowledge and professional knowledge in this discipline, pay attention to learn and grasp the dynamic development of cutting-edge knowledge, and are encouraged to take interdisciplinary elective courses according to the needs of the papers. 2. Curriculum and credits composition (see attached table) The total credits are not less than 23. Public Course at least five credits, Methods Course at least six credits, Specialized Courses not less than nine credits, Optional Course at least two credits, Academic Lectures at least one credit, at least two Advanced Placement. Ⅶ Qualifying Examination The disciplinary comprehensive examination is a comprehensive examination after the doctoral students completing the course study and before entering the dissertation research stage. The exam is composed of written part and oral part. Ⅷ Academic seminar and social practice
1. Academic Seminars (1 credits). Students should participate in academic lectures at least 10 times before the comprehensive examination, and in principle they must attend the academic lectures organized by the school. After the opening report, the doctoral student must attend academic conferences and lectures relevant to the principle (at least 10 times, being speaker at least once) again and provide comment reports for mentors to audit and assess. 2. Social Practice (excluding credits). The required social practice must be enterprises and social attachments recommended by the university party and government organs. After the practice, students must provide a written summary report or survey report for the mentor to supervise. Ⅸ Presentation on the Research Proposal of Dissertation The presentation is to elaborate, review and determine the Ph.D. dissertation topics and content in order to monitor and guarantee the paper quality. Ⅹ Research and academic papers publication Doctoral students should publish two (including two) or above papers before applying for paper defense. Specific requirements: at least one academic paper published in core journals that identified by the Department of Scientific Research and one high level academic paper approved by School Academic Council. Ⅺ Dissertation writing and requirements 1. Dissertation writing The dissertation writing is the core link of the doctorate education and the concentrated reflection of the doctoral training quality and academic levels. The doctoral student must finish paper writing within the stipulated time. Dissertation is academic paper, specific requirements can be found in The writing specification of doctoral dissertation and The writing and printing requirements of the dissertation and abstract of the Graduate School, Renmin University of China". Dissertation must be independently completed on schedule by doctoral student under the guidance of mentor. The dissertation should meet the requirements of the training objects and ensure quality. 2. The defense and degree-granting The doctoral students who finish all the projects regulated by the training plan, pass the assessment and write a dissertation and its abstract can enter the dissertation review and defense stage recommended by the mentor and approved by the Graduate School.
