Troubleshooting (Cont.) INTRODUCTION 3. If Mixer still does not rotate, disconnect the AC line cord from the AC receptacle. Replace Mixer with similar unit. Reconnect the Mixer to the Controller. Reconnect the AC line cord to the AC receptacle. Move the FWD-OFF- REV switch to the desired setting. 4. If the Mixer head still does not rotate, disconnect the AC line cord from the AC receptacle. Disconnect the Mixer from the Controller. Replace the Controller with similar unit. Reconnect the Mixer to the Controller. Reconnect the AC line cord to the AC receptacle. Move the FWD- OFF-REV switch to the proper setting. A variable speed controller is used to set the speed of the Mixer. The high speed shaft operates at speeds up to 5,000 rpm for mixing low viscosity fluids. The low speed shaft operates through a 20:1 gear reduction providing a 100 in-oz high torque output at speeds up to 250 rpm for mixing higher viscosity fluids. The solid state speed controller provides precise speed control with a 100:1 adjustment range. The mixer has a JACOBS -type chuck and accepts stirring shafts from 5/16 in to 3/8 in. Included in this manual are Description, Installation/Setup, Operation, Maintenance and Troubleshooting and Specification data. Safety precautions listed throughout the manual must be followed to protect the operator. READOUTS AND CONTROLS FORWARD-OFF-REVERSE SWITCH POWER ON INDICATOR Figure 1. Readouts and Controls SPEED CONTROL DESCRIPTION The dual-shaft mixer, with detached controller, has the speed and power to stir high- and low-viscosity materials in large or small batches. The mixer connects to a connector on the rear panel of the controller. (See Figure 2.) A JACOBS-type chuck attaches to either shaft of the mixer and accepts stirring shafts from 5/16 in to 3/8 in. The inline shaft is direct drive and 14 3

rotates at speeds from 50 to 5,000 rpm and provides 7 in-oz torque. The shaft from the 20:1 gear reducer rotates at low speed from 3 to 250 rpm and provides 100 in-oz torque for higher viscosity fluids. The Controller assures accurate, dependable motor speed (mixing) control, with soft start and smooth gradual acceleration to the speed setting. Constant speed with a 100:1 adjustment range is maintained electronically via automatic compensation for changes in load torque demands at both high and low speeds. Built-in motor current compensation minimizes speed drift with changes in load. Motor current limiting protects the system in case of a locked rotor condition. Output circuit protection protects against inadvertent output shorting. The controller operates from 90-130V AC at 50 or 60 Hz. The permanent magnet gearmotor is rated for 1/25 hp, and is totally enclosed to protect against splashes and runs cool at low speeds. Mixer rotation is reversible. MOTOR CONNECTOR LINE CORD Figure 2. Controller Rear Panel Be sure to follow these Safety Precautions when using the MIXER CON- TROLLER System: WARNINGS: Always wear appropriate eye protection when mixing any kind of fluid. Avoid wearing loose clothing that may get caught by a turning mixer shaft. To stop the Mixer Head in an emergency, place FWD/OFF/REV switch to OFF or remove the power plug. Troubleshooting SYMPTOM CAUSE REMEDY Mixer shaft does not rotate when Controller is switched to FWD or REV regardless of SPEED control setting. POWER indicator does not glow.
