Basic hardware Optimized flexibility Basic software Optimized functionality The FPS Controller is a well-planned, complete system. It is built on a powerful hardware platform using an industrial PC for robust reliability. Space saving design for a small footprint in the cabinet Use of standard components from independent suppliers for high investment security and low maintenance costs Easy wiring of I/O s through lock and release contacts for reliable and fast connection Integrated display with rotary switch and push buttons make operation and configuration a breeze Configuration options enable you to set up the system according to your needs. Operation window provides a quick overview of current system conditions and transmission states. The intuitive GUI makes programming easy. The powerful FPS controller base software offers following functions and features: For power networks with 50Hz or 60Hz the following ripple control systems are supported: Semagyr 50/52/56, Ricontic, Pulsadis, TELENERG, DECABIT Code structures with direct and/or addressed single and double commands Real time control commands over the entire power network Control command definition in plain text Triggering a control command and the associated ripple control transmissions depend on its initiating command Line-specific transmissions (= substation-specific) Internal clock with calendar and external synchronization Definition of special days Astronomical calendar Automatic reaction in case of operating failures and alarm messages Archiving of the operating protocols and all events Logging of external messages Operating protocol and system messages can be filtered, selectively viewed and printed Printout of internal lists FPS operation via screen, mouse and keyboard Monitoring the operating hours of the commands (activation time) Simultaneous operation from several workstations (remote desktop connection) Direct outputs to control several objects w/o any ripple control transmissions System access controlled by user identifier and password Four categories of user authorization Operating status monitoring at a glance External inputs/outputs Virtual inputs/outputs Easy transfer of system data to MSOffice programs for individual analysis or display 5
System architecture The FPS ripple control system portfolio consists of the central unit (FPS-CU), the local unit (FPS-LU) and the portable command unit (FPS-P). The same basic software is used for the central and local command units, resulting in simple centralized updates and modification of parameters. FPS-P provides the features and functionality of the FPS in a portable format to ensure seamless operation in the event of a failure. The LAN connection offers the comfort and flexibility of a remote desktop connection to the FPS-CU that can be controlled and monitored from any workstation within the network. Due to the flexibility of the system, our Landis+Gyr Engineering expert consultants are able to design a customized solution to meet your specific requirements. The architecture supports easily large installations with over 100 substations. Software options The FPS system offers optional software modules to meet every need: SCADA Interface Coded Transmission Redundant Central Unit Load Control Semagyr-TOP Dynamics 3G Software Options Base Software: Operation window, navigation, configuration, commands, time programs, etc. Hardware: Industrial PC, inputs/outputs, real time clock, etc. SCADA interface FPS integrates easily into the power system control center for control and monitoring functions via the SCADA IEC 60870-5-104 interface. Coded transmission The coded transmission function allows the central FPS command unit (CU) to operate several substations responsible for local FPS units (LU) via a LAN connection. This ensures that the database and the current system configuration are always synchronized. In case of emergency the FPS-LU operates completely autonomously. GPS synchronization enables synchronous transmission even in a local mode. Dynamic load control The load control module is a closed loop system that dynamically manages load groups in real time to reduce load peaks and fill load gaps based on the current state of the system. Simply enter the target power value curve. The FPS will turn load groups on and off automatically to meet the target value according to programmed algorithms, taking into account priority, minimum activation time and availability of the load. Semagyr-TOP The Semagyr-TOP protocol enables remote parameterization by transmitting time programs to the ripple control receivers. In this way, an individualized time program list is produced in each receiver and utilities can easily react to market and customer needs. Dynamics 3G - Part of the proven Gridstream solution The Dynamics 3G module enables 2-way PLC communication via the Gridstream AIM smart metering infrastructure. Remote parameterization of the L740 hybrid load switch is achieved using time line sets and profiles. Utilities can easily respond to changing customer requirements or market needs with a simple profile change or by modifying existing or creating new time lines. 9
Part of the proven Gridstream solution The FPS with Dynamics 3G fits seamlessly in the network architecture, bringing the smart metering and ripple control worlds together. Utilities can migrate to smart metering at their own pace, leveraging their ripple control system, reducing risk and optimally managing new investment. Dynamic load management is a key component of smart grids in order to balance the volatility of renewables and ensure network stability. This powerful functionality can now be integrated into Gridstream AIM smart metering systems with Dynamics 3G and the proven load control module. Due to remote parameterization, customer profiles and single addressing, customized product offerings are easy to implement. Two-way communication ensures fast fault finding with remote diagnostics. Tamper detection and monitoring functions provide up-to-date information on the state of the load switch for long-term network reliability and investment protection.
