NZQF NQ Ref 1689 Version 2 Page 2 of 6 National Certificate in Retail (Level 3) Level 3 Credits 60 Purpose This qualification is aimed at experienced retail staff who have leadership aspirations. The qualification recognises that a person can: demonstrate skills in retail operations and compliance with company policy and procedures demonstrate knowledge of retail legislation and train staff on the application of retail legislation, health and safety legislation and employment law assist in supervising staff on the shop floor assist in monitoring staff performance for meeting set targets demonstrate knowledge of products, loss prevention and implementation of loss prevention policies and procedures negotiate and close a sale within the salespersons level of authority. This qualification is for people who intend to work towards becoming a manager in the retail industry. The core skills and knowledge required of a person working towards becoming a supervisor or assistant manager are outlined in the compulsory section. The elective enables the inclusion of other industry competencies to enable a person to work in their selected field of work. Graduates of this qualification will be able to apply the skills and knowledge from retail occupations in the workforce that can lead onto to them becoming supervisors, assistant managers and team leaders. This qualification leads to the National Certificate in Retail (Level 4) [Ref: 0995]. Replacement Information This qualification replaces the National Certificate in Retail (Level 3) with optional strands in Bicycle Sales and Servicing; Garden Retail; Visual Merchandising; Delicatessen; and Produce [Ref: 0994]. Special Notes People in the workforce may have demonstrated competence in the outcomes specified in individual standards in this qualification. These candidates should seek recognition of their current competence wherever it is relevant to this qualification. Recognition of current competence must be carried out by accredited providers or registered workplace assessors in accordance with NZQA guidelines.

Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Standard 11097 from the Core Compulsory of Ref: 0994 was included in Elective 2. Standards 4098, 7106, 7108 and 18203 from the Core Elective of Ref: 0994 were included in Elective 2. The last date for assessment against the National Certificate in Retail (Level 3) with optional strands in Bicycle Sales and Servicing; Garden Retail; Visual Merchandising; Delicatessen; and Produce [Ref: 0994] is 31 December 2014. Candidates who wish to complete the Visual Merchandising optional strand must be assessed against standard 11446, Explore relationship among surface, material, and form qualities in craft, art, and design practice, before it expires in December 2012. It is anticipated that no existing trainees will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. Certification This certificate will display the logos of NZQA, and the organisation that has been granted consent to assess against standards that meet the requirements of the qualification (accredited).
