RS GCSE: Guided Mock Exam Aim: To enable students to exceed target grades in May and June

Looking at my Exam Paper Read the INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

Today you DON T have an Answer Booklet. But before your time starts you need to fill out the same information at the top of your provided lined paper.

Medical Ethics You will notice that the Paper has three sections. You only need to complete TWO. With a highlighter, identify the two topics you have studied: Not the one you haven t!

Now CROSS OUT the whole of this page and the next page, so you cannot make a mistake: DO NOT answer these questions!!!

Now IDENTIFY the questions you will be answering in section A and B For EVERY section you will ONLY answer on Christianity. So ONLY highlight that question and cross everything else out as well!

In the last two years, at least 12 students INCLUDING some predicted A* have answered the WRONG questions!!! In May, you WILL NOT be told specifically which questions to answer!

Now you will need to re-familiarise yourself with the mark scheme and your timings. Remember we are going to spend 5 MINUTES on a-c

Now you will need to re-familiarise yourself with the mark scheme and your timings. Remember we are going to spend 10 MINUTES on d

Now you will need to re-familiarise yourself with the mark scheme and your timings. Remember we are going to spend 15 MINUTES on e

We re going to make a start. If you want to ignore the teacher talking and just GET ON WITH IT, then that s OK. Good Luck!!!

We re going to make a start. If you want do the questions in a DIFFERENT ORDER, because you find timing difficult, that s OK too, but you won t get the advice at the right time. Good Luck!!!

A Quick Start! Section A: Religion, Peace and Justice Hopefully you have learnt your keywords! (a) What is meant by the term social injustice? [1] If not, work it out! What is another word for justice? What is the opposite? At what level is it happening? What did I learn about in this unit s lessons? If you can t define it, give an example instead or as well If you have no idea SKIP IT OUT and MOVE ON It s only 1 mark!!!

A Quick Start! Section A: Religion, Peace and Justice (b) Give two reasons why Christians might be pacifists [2] ALWAYS ANSWER A 2 MARK QUESTION WITH 2 SENTENCES! What does the question mean? SAY 2 things Christians believe that means they believe in pacifism. Answering in a full sentence will help: Christians are pacifists because they believe that/in

A Quick Start! Section A: Religion, Peace and Justice c) Give three ways in which Christians might respond to social injustice [3] ALWAYS ANSWER A 3 MARK QUESTION WITH 3 SENTENCES! YUK! - What does the question mean? The word Respond means simply DO BECAUSE OF SO, in each sentence say a DIFFERENT thing a Christian might do when they see injustices in the world around them. It would be a GOOD idea to give examples of real people you have studied in class to explain each idea

A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING Section A: Religion, Peace and Justice (d) Explain what Christians might believe about Just War [6] ALWAYS ANSWER A 6 MARK QUESTION WITH 3 PARAGRAPHS Point, Evidence, Explanation A mini essay consisting of 3 (or more) paragraphs. Each paragraph should contain a KEY POINT answering the question, fully EXPLAINED with EVIDENCE 1 2 3 KEY POINT (All/Some/ Many/ Catholic/)Christian s think that (All/Some/ Many/ Catholic/)Christian s think that (All/Some/ Many/ Catholic/)Christian s think that Evidence & Explanation Because in the Bible it says this means Use a Quote or story or an example of a Christian today in each paragraph

A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING Section A: Religion, Peace and Justice (d) Explain what Christians might believe about Just War [6] ALWAYS ANSWER A 6 MARK QUESTION WITH 3 PARAGRAPHS DON T PANIC!!! We learnt about Just War Theory in class: write about when Christians believe it is OK to go to war. If you can t think of more than one idea that s OK: write about why Christians believe war may NOT be justified If you only write 2 paragraphs you CAN still get 4/6 (B grade!) YOU MUST try and put in QUOTES and EXAMPLES

AN INTERESTING EVALUATION Section A: Religion, Peace and Justice (e) Criminals do not deserve human rights. [12] ALWAYS ANSWER A 12 MARK QUESTION WITH 4 OR MORE PARAGRAPHS Para 1: Some people agree with the statement because Always give two clear reasons, with examples, if you can Para 2: Some people disagree with the statement because Always give two clear reasons, with examples, if you can Para 3: Christians think Explain the different views Christians hold. Refer to different beliefs, use Bible evidence and give any examples you can this might be more than one paragraph Other Christians, in contrast, believe Para 4: In conclusion, I think that : Explain YOUR opinion as a conclusion. Show you understand that the issue is difficult and important

Half-way through: time for the second question. You should be able to switch off and stop listening you KNOW how to do it Christianity (a) State one way in which animals are used for medical research [1] (b) Give two reasons why Christians might be against euthanasia [2] (c) Describe how Christians might respond to the issue of cloning [3] (d) Explain why Christians might have different attitudes towards a woman seeking fertility treatment [6] (e) We should be able to treat animals in any way we wish. Discuss this statement. You should include different, supported points of view and a personal viewpoint. You must refer to Christianity in your answer. [12] [Total: 24]

A Quick Start! Section B: Religion and Medical Ethics (a) State one way in which animals are used for medical research [1] What s the benefit of animal testing for people who are ill? Explain briefly in a SENTENCE, not a bullet point If you have no idea SKIP IT OUT and MOVE ON It s only 1 mark!!!
