Receiving a Way Out (12 13)

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29

Before the Lord calls Israel to trust that he will fight through them, he will show them once again how he will fight for them. ESV Study Bible

If you permit the Lord to direct your steps, expect to be led occasionally on paths that may seem unnecessarily long and circuitous. God knows what He s doing, He isn t in a hurry, and as long as you follow Him, you re safe and in the placeof His blessing. Warren Wiersbe

Encountering a Dead End (14:1 12)

And I will harden Pharaoh s heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord. So the Israelites did this. Exodus 14:4

God s express goal throughout Exodus is to make himself known as the Lord (Yahweh).

The reaction of the Hebrews is quite typical of those whose spiritual perspectives are those which are conditioned by the present alone. John Davis

When you forget God s promises, you start to imagine the worst possible scenario. Unbelief has a way of erasing from our memory all the demonstrations we ve seen of God s great power and all the instances we know of God s faithfulness to His Word. Warren Wiersbe

Facing a Revealing Choice (14:13 18)

Moses answered the people, Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. Exodus 14:13

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14

The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots and his horsemen. Exodus 14:18

The Israelites stood on the back side of the Passover and wanted to go back pre-passover. Standing on this side of the cross, we too often want to go back and live in a pre-cross way.

Faith is not believing in spite of evidence but obeying in spite of consequence. Warren Wiersbe

Experiencing a Divine Hand (14:19 31)

And when the Israelites saw the great power the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in Him and in Moses His servant. Exodus 14:31

The disciples went and woke Him, saying, Master, Master, we re going to drown! He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. Luke 8:24

Where is your faith? He asked His disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him. Luke 8:25

By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. Hebrews 11:29

About eight days after Jesus said this, He took Peter, John and James with Him and went up onto a mountain to pray. Luke 9:28

As He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Luke 9:29

Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about His departure, which He was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Luke 9:30,31

For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. 1 Corinthians 10:1

They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. 1 Corinthians 10:2

They all ate the same spiritual food 1 Corinthians 10:3

and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:4

Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them; their bodies were scattered over the desert. 1 Corinthians 10:5

These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 1 Corinthians 10:11

So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don t fall! 1 Corinthians 10:12

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:13

If there is one passage that the New Testament invites us to read as a paradigm of Christ s salvation, it s this passage (Exodus 14). Tim Keller

Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted. The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea. Exodus 15:1

The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father s God, and I will exalt Him. Exodus 15:2

The Lord is a warrior; the Lord is His name. Exodus 15:3

Who among the gods is like You, O Lord? Who is like you majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? Exodus 15:11

You stretched out Your right hand and the earth swallowed them. Exodus 15:12

In Your unfailing love You will lead the people You have redeemed. In Your strength You will guide them to Your holy dwelling. Exodus 15:13

A healthy fear of God leads to a holy faith in God. The power of God compels the trust of His people.
