Grade 12 Advance Placement Policy The Ohio Department of Education Division of Career Technical Education, and the Trumbull Career and Technical Center Board of Education, have developed policies which allow for the Advance Placement of seniors, enrolled in career/technical courses. In keeping with these policies and standards, the following guidelines are set forth to govern Advance Placement at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center. Students and parents must realize that Advance Placement is a privilege that must be earned by the individual student. It is not an automatic procedure for all career/technical students. Objectives of Grade 12 Advance Placement 1. Advance Placement is designed to provide students with actual on the job work experience to enhance and complete the career/technical lab experience. 2. Advance Placement will provide the student with additional experience on specialized equipment that may not be available at the career/technical school. 3. Advance Placement will provide the student with additional experience to help in the adjustment to business and industrial practices. Grade 12 Advance Placement Guidelines 1. The student will be placed in Advance Placement assignments after September 30 th (1 st Semester) or February 3rd (2 nd Semester) of his/her senior year. 2. Student must have the approval of his/her instructor for Advance Placement. 3. To be eligible for First Semester AP, the student must have a final B grade or better in lab, related and academic classes for Grade 11 and first semester to date of Grade 12. To be eligible for Second Semester AP, the student must have a >B= grade average or better in both lab and related during the first semester. The student must have a >C= grade average or better in all academic classes for the first semester. These grade averages must be maintained during Advance Placement and will be checked periodically.

4. The student must maintain a 95% attendance average throughout Grades 11 and 12 to qualify and remain eligible for First Semester Advance Placement. The student must maintain a 90% attendance average throughout the year to qualify for, and remain eligible for, Second Semester Advance Placement. 5. The student s job must be approved by the instructor and must be in the area of the student s training program. 6. The Cooperative Training Agreement Form and Training Plan must be completed and turned in to the instructor prior to employment of the student. An employer Evaluation Form will be given to employers to rate the student s performance a minimum of two times each nine weeks. 7. During First Semester Advance Placement, students may be excused to work a maximum of 3x/week. During Second Semester Advance Placement, students may be excused to work a maximum of 4x/week. However, the number of days out per week should be discussed with and agreed upon by the student s program instructor so that the student s classroom needs are fully met. 8. The student must pass all web exams prior to starting AP. Exceptions will be granted on an individual basis. Failure to maintain these requirements will result in a student being dismissed from the program.

Grade 12 First Semester Attendance Qualifications The chart below will be used to determine what constitutes acceptable attendance standards for Grade 12 First Semester Advance Placement. The chart is self-explanatory and was arrived at by using the minimum attendance rate of 95%. A student who has been absent and/or tardy more than 5% of the days due will be ineligible to participate in Grade 12 First Semester Advance Placement (i.e. his or her number of days absent for the year is, as of that week, greater than the number of days appearing in the right hand column). Eligibility for Grade 12 First Semester Advance Placement is based on a student s junior year and Grade 12 first semester attendance. Work Procedure The job training station lead can be supplied by the Student, Instructor, Supervisor, or the Career Development Program Coordinator. The instructor and student will complete the Grade 12 First or Second Semester Advance Placement Student Trainee Information Sheet. The instructor will follow up the interview and hiring by contacting the employer to complete the Grade 12 First or Second Semester Advance Placement Guidelines Form, and to organize a Training Plan. Do not allow the students to complete the forms. This is the instructor s responsibility. Forms should be typed or printed in ink. Please remember the forms are several pages thick. The student will review Grade 12 First or Second Semester Advance Placement Guidelines with the parent/guardian and get appropriate signatures. This will be returned to the instructor. It will, in turn, be sent to the Career Development Program Coordinator who will supply copies for parents, employers and instructors. A copy of the Grade 12 First or Second Semester Advance Placement Guidelines and Training Plan must be on file with the Career Development Program Coordinator before the student can be released from school. The employer will complete the evaluation form 2x/month (minimum). The student should supply copies of the evaluation form to his/her instructor and the Career Development coordinator.

Training Plans And Work Agreement The importance of Training Plans and Work Agreements in Cooperative Career Technical Education Programs cannot be over-emphasized. Both federal and state laws, as well as the Ohio Department of Education Division of Career Technical and Adult Education, require that Program Agreements and Training Plans be on file with the employer. The attached information will further assist you in preparing Training Plans which adequately reflect the student/employees job needs. If you have any questions regarding Training Plans, please feel free to discuss them with the Career Development Program Coordinator or your supervisor. General Instructions Identify job title. Prior to employment, obtain or develop with the employer a complete job description. From this job description, list the tasks the student/employee will perform during his/her work experience. The tasks should be listed in sequence as the training increases for the student. Be as specific as possible. Be sure that the instruction necessary for the student/employee to perform his/her tasks is listed, with special emphasis on any possible safety instruction necessary. Be sure instruction precedes the actual performance of the tasks by the student. Document when the student/employee has achieved the desired level of performance on each task performed.

2016-2017 Grade 12 First Semester Advance Placement Program STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET Each year our school provides senior students the opportunity to earn participation in the Advance Placement Program. Briefly, the Advance Placement Program is designed to allow you to work on a job which is related to the career/technical area you are studying. This work experience will take the place of your career/technical experience, and you will receive a grade which is cooperatively arrived at by your teacher and your employer. The Advance Placement Program is designed for those students who have done well in their technical and academic classes and who would benefit more from the work experience than they would benefit from continuing in their lab. A student may find an Advance Placement job, or they may be referred to the job by school personnel. In all cases, a student must meet the guidelines for participation in the Advance Placement Program. A student who does not meet the guidelines will not be allowed to participate in the Advance Placement Program. The guidelines for qualification and continuation in the Advance Placement Program are: 1. You must be in Grade 12 and in the second year of a two year program. 2. You must maintain these grade averages. A student will not be permitted to remain on Advance Placement if his or her grades drop below these requirements.

6. You must maintain 95% attendance average throughout Grades 11 and 12 to qualify for and remain eligible for Advance Placement. If your attendance drops below these requirements you will not be permitted to remain on Advance Placement. 7. You must be employed on a job the same as or related to the field in which you are enrolled. 8. You must be able to provide all job-related transportation. 9. Your job must be a bona fide, legal, paid (paystub and W-2 as proof) job meeting all federal and state labor laws. 10. All fees must be paid. 11. All parts of the OGT must be passed. 12. The student must pass all web exams prior to starting AP. Exceptions will be granted on an individual basis. 13. Any request for exceptions to the guidelines must be reviewed and approved by the Advance Placement Coordinator, career technical program supervisor, program teacher, and academic teachers, if applicable. If you think you meet the qualifications listed above, and you either have a job or have been referred for a job, and the possibility exists that you might be hired, your first step is to complete the Advance Placement Program Guidelines which you may obtain from Mrs. DeToro. It is the policy of Trumbull Career and Technical Center that educational activities, employment, programs, and services are offered without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, handicap or age.
