Purpose: The Town of Halton Hills is committed to implementing our Community Sustainability Strategy and has taken important steps to demonstrate this commitment. A Sustainability Implementation Committee has been established to champion the Strategy s implementation. To complement these efforts this practical application package is designed for all Halton Hills residents and organizations interested in becoming a sustainability partner with the Town of Halton Hills. Sustainability Partners will join the Town and the community in implementing our Community Sustainability Strategy, Imagine Halton Hills, and hence help us reach a higher quality of life. This higher quality of life will be characterized by Cultural Vibrancy, Economic Prosperity, Environmental Health and Social Wellbeing. There are two partnership categories: (i) SUSTAINABILITY AMBASSADOR and (ii) SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPION. It will be up to you to decide which sustainability partner level works best for your individual lifestyle or your organization. Becoming a partner is a valuable opportunity to help shape the future of Halton Hills. The Town s Office of Sustainability will assist you through the process, making it easy. What is a Sustainability Partnership? Local businesses, organizations and residents voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Town to support, lead, and/or engage in sustainability initiatives. Partners can receive various benefits for joining. Forming community partnerships is anticipated to: Enhance awareness of the Strategy and the benefits of sustainability; Increase our community s capacity to achieve sustainability by supplementing limited resources with partner resources; Provide an opportunity to recognize stakeholders for their leadership in taking actions that contribute to Halton Hills Cultural Vibrancy, Economic Prosperity, Environmental Health and Social Wellbeing. Partners can help in achieving community goals by implementing internal initiatives and/or by collaborating with other partners on joint projects. Becoming a partner can help residents and organizations achieve their own goals. Achieving a sustainable community is accomplished through individual and collective action. i

IMAGINE HALTON HILLS SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT AND PLEDGE Imagine Halton Hills Halton Hills Community Sustainability Strategy captures the hopes and dreams of our community for the next 50 years. Mayor Rick Bonnette We understand that by signing and submitting this "Sustainability Partnership Agreement and Pledge" to the Town of Halton Hills (Office of Sustainability), upon confirmation from the Office of Sustainability, we can identify ourselves as a Sustainability Partner at the "Sustainability Ambassador" level. As a Sustainability Partner we understand that by supporting our Community Sustainability Strategy we are demonstrating our commitment to creating a future with a high quality of life for everyone in Halton Hills. This future will be characterized by cultural vibrancy, economic prosperity, environmental health and social wellbeing. Sustainability Partners help implement our community s vision to the year 2060. This vision states that In 2060, the urban and rural communities of Halton Hills balance economic prosperity with a deep commitment to the natural environment, while retaining viable local agriculture and small-town feel, and being socially equitable, culturally vibrant and strongly connected. Upon deciding to advance from the Sustainability Ambassador to the Sustainability Champion level of partnership, we understand that we will be required to promote or engage in one or more initiatives when and where feasible that advance at least one of the four pillars of sustainability: Cultural Vibrancy: A culturally vibrant community where culture is integrated with our economic, social and environmental lives and offers the opportunity for individual fulfillment through access to sports, recreation, arts, culture and heritage. Economic Prosperity: A community where economic prosperity is based on a green, diversified and resilient economy, and the strengthening of the existing industrial base. Environmental Health: A community where integrated, thriving natural systems are valued, actively protected, and enhanced for long-term health and enjoyment. Social Wellbeing: A healthy and safe community based on an ethic of caring and social equity. As a Sustainability Champion we understand that we will become community leaders that will provide examples of sustainability excellence, which may involve information sharing and networking with other partners, the Town of Halton Hills and the community at large. Page 1 of 2 4

We understand that in order to progress to becoming a "Sustainability Champion" we must submit completed "Sustainability Champion Action Report(s)" forms outlining the initiatives we are engaging or have engaged in. To align with the approval of our Community Sustainability Strategy, only initiatives undertaken after January 1, 2013 and which support one or more of the pillars of sustainability are eligible towards becoming a Sustainability Champion. However, prior initiatives may be shared in various publications. We understand that the Town will use community outreach events to recognize the achievements of Sustainability Ambassadors and Sustainability Champions, and provide summary information about select actions that we are taking, and we authorize the Town to use approved versions of our logo for engagement, promotional and educational purposes.
