3 EDITORIAL While the reduction of the environmental footprint of our administrative sites energy consumption, greenhouse gases, water and waste is the cornerstone of our charter for administrative buildings, it is not the only ambition. Offering pleasant and efficient working conditions to contribute to the Group employees health and wellbeing, as well as conveying the Group values and ethics and tackling sustainable development challenges in the cities where we are located, here are the objectives of the Charter. Three objectives of excellence are the cornerstones of our Charter for responsible buildings at our administrative properties: Health and wellbeing: Providing employees and stakeholders with healthy and comfortable work spaces Environment: Limiting the environmental footprint of administrative sites Involvement in the city: Incorporating Sanofi s buildings into the sustainable development programs in the cities where we operate Technical booklets accompany the Charter to detail the quality levels that the Group wants to reach for various real estate operations, when taking a new lease, renewing a lease, renewing existing spaces or operating an existing building. We have chosen to gradually implement the Charter worldwide on our administrative buildings stock in order to reach our objectives by 2020, taking account of each country characteristics. But our work is only beginning: we will make this charter evolve altogether in order to take into account your feedback. We are thankful for your active participation. 6 Charter Context 3 EXCELLENCE OBJECTIVES A Charter applicable to existing and future administrative buildings Measuring PERFORMANCE Sanofi, a global care-oriented Corporate focused on employees and partners needs Through the definition and the implementation of the Sustainable Building Charter, the Sanofi Group wants to promote efficient working conditions and a pleasant working environment, in order to take part in our employees health and wellbeing. This approach, which conveys the values and ethics of the Group, answers to the sustainable development stakes and aims at attracting the brightest worldwide in the long term. Finally, the Sustainable Building Ambition helps to contribute to the human community and the planet resilience as much as possible. A Charter which is applicable to all of the Group s administrative buildings The Sanofi Group, operating in nearly 100 countries, makes up a community of more than 110,000 employees who are in contact with patients, researchers, public and private partners, health authorities, NGOs, and so on. We have administrative sites in all of the countries where the Group is present. More than a quarter of Sanofi employees work at these facilities, which cover administrative support, commercial activities, and conference centers among other. The Group s sites are important conveyors of our image and our values of innovation, ethics, appreciation for our employees, and respect for the environment. Decisions related to real estate are in line with Sanofi s CSR policy and contribute to reaching our objectives in the areas of Ethics ( Human Rights in the Supply Chain ), the Planet ( Energy and Carbon Footprint, Water Management ) and People ( Health and Safety in the Workplace, Diversity ). 6 summary

Six technical booklets accompany the Charter, setting out the challenges, objectives, and processes for implementing it. Each situation depends on the type of property management conducted by Sanofi s internal teams in central positions, the local contacts, partners, real-estate consultants, property managers, and technical management providers at our buildings : For the construction or major renovation of a building under a new lease (technical booklet no. 1) When taking out a new lease on a building already built (technical booklet no. 2) When renewing an existing lease (technical booklet no. 3) For minor renovation of existing fit-out under a current lease (technical booklet no. 4) When operating and using a building (technical booklet no. 5) When implementing the Charter within the Master Planning processes (technical booklet no. 6) 7 summary

10 Charter Context 3 EXCELLENCE OBJECTIVES A Charter applicable to existing and future administrative buildings Measuring PERFORMANCE ENVIRONMENT Reducing the environmental footprint of our administrative sites In general, the real-estate sector is the area of activities with the largest environmental footprint in terms of energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and waste production. Our Charter reflects Sanofi s aim of helping to reduce the environmental footprint at our administrative buildings by means of 5 commitments: 12 Decreasing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions at all of the Group s administrative properties 13 Favoring energies with the lowest environmental impact 14 Controlling water consumption at each site 15 Diminishing impacts related to waste production through solutions such as at-source waste reduction and the recovery of materials 16 Minimizing the impacts of land use when selecting sites for administrative facilities 10 summary

11 Charter Context 3 EXCELLENCE OBJECTIVES A Charter applicable to existing and future administrative buildings Measuring PERFORMANCE INVOLVEMENT IN THE CITY Integrating our buildings within the sustainable development programs in the cities where we operate As part of our CSR program, the Sanofi Group wishes to participate actively in the sustainable development programs in the cities where we operate. 14 SustainableBuilding@Sanofi Charter Context 3 EXCELLENCE OBJECTIVES A Charter applicable to existing and future administrative buildings Measuring PERFORMANCE The scope of the Charter encompasses all of the Group s administrative buildings throughout the world. The technical booklets associated with the Charter are an itemization of the Charter s 21 commitments in the form of operational actions that depend on the real-estate situations encountered by Sanofi s internal and external teams: construction or major renovation of a building under a new lease 1 taking out a new lease on a building already built renewing an existing lease 2 3 minor renovation of existing fit-out under current lease 4 operating and using a building 5 implementing the Charter within the Master Planning processes 6 In addition, to take into account the variety of regulatory contexts and encountered practices, our Charter and its technical booklets have been designed to enable different approaches that still respect the following principles: Respecting the regulations of the country where a site is located Seeking higher levels than regulations require for Sanofi s priority commitments, in particular as regards comfort and health Use the specifications of internationally recognized environmental building certifications Have common objectives and performance levels across the whole Group 14 summary

15 Charter Context 3 EXCELLENCE OBJECTIVES A Charter applicable to existing and future administrative buildings Measuring PERFORMANCE MOBILIZING Each of these specific situations mobilizes various players at Sanofi and its partners. The implementation of the Charter therefore requires identifying the organizations and people who will be involved at different stages of an operation so that they can be kept informed of the commitments that it contains. 16 Charter Context 3 EXCELLENCE OBJECTIVES A Charter applicable to existing and future administrative buildings Measuring PERFORMANCE IMPROVING Our Charter is gradually implemented over a 5-year period. Since each situation in the various regions and countries is specific in terms of local regulations, practices, and rental markets, the Charter therefore is flexible and adaptable in its implementation. The technical booklets help taking the characteristics of each situation into account. Hence, requirements levels are increasing from operating and using a building (technical booklet no. 5) to construction or renovation of a building under a new lease (technical booklet no. 1). Compliance to the credits is getting more and more compulsory through the years to aim at improving. Moreover, Sanofi Group wants to comply with important prerequisites during the first year. For other actions, every project and every site can chose the actions they want to focus on. 17 Charter Context 3 EXCELLENCE OBJECTIVES A Charter applicable to existing and future administrative buildings Measuring PERFORMANCE RECOGNITION The SustainableBuilding@Sanofi Charter is based on standards that are internationally recognized through environmental certifications. There are three levels of commitment depending on the situation encountered: Respect for prerequisites in all situations Implementation of an improvement process over a 5-year period Obtaining environmental certification: mandatory in the case of newly constructed turnkey buildings, desired for new leases, recommended in other situations, relying on the main environmental rating systems 17 summary
