Started as an agricultural college in 1919, NCHU has long served as a cradle of Taiwan s conventional agricultural prowess by providing top notch and innovative agriculturalists throughout its historic growth. The Ministry of Education (MOE) launched in 2006 its five-year 50 billion program Development Plan for World Class Universities and Research Centers of Excellence. CreditCourses For the Fall and Spring semesters, integrated courses at Basic Level, Intermediate Level and Highintermediate Levelareofferedtoimprovestudents abilitiesinlistening, speaking, reading and writing. Themebased courses on Taiwan Today, Reading Chinese News, Business Chinese are also offered. The Spring semester starts in midfebruary and the Fall semester in midseptember. Each semester lasts 18 weeks. There are three or four classhoursperweekfordifferentcourses. FortheSummersession,bothlanguagecoursesandculturalactivitiesareoffered.Languagecourses includebeginnerandintermediatelevels,whileculturalactivitiesincludeinformationaboutchinese society,history,festival,art,medicine,martialart,etc.thefirstsummersessionstartsinearlyjuly andthesecondinearlyaugust.thedurationofeachsummersessionisfivetosixweeks.thereare a total of 54 classhours for each Summer session, plus four culture activities of two hours each, whichareheldonceaweek.
