Westward Hydraulic Service Jacks Description Westward Hydraulic service jacks are designed for lifting, but not sustaining. The Service Jack (MLA) with Quick Lift System provides one pump to lift point contact, which allows a no-load lift possible in seconds. These jacks are designed to be used in conjunction with jack stands. Intended use: To lift one axle of a vehicle for the purpose of service and /or repair of vehicle components. After lifting, loads must be immediately supported by appropriately rated jack stands. Check with vehicle manufacturer s owners manual for proper lift points. These jacks comply with applicable ANSI / PALD Standards. This is a lifting device only. Intended use is for lifting part of a total vehicle, only one wheel or axle at a time. Immediately after lifting, support vehicle with appropriate means. Do not exceed rated capacity. Use only on hard, level surfaces capable of sustaining rated capacity loads. Lift only on those areas of the vehicle as specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Ensure that the lift point is properly centered on the jack saddle. Do not use to dolly or move vehicle. Always wear safety goggles when using this equipment. Inspect jack before each use. Do not use if bent, broken, leaking, or damaged components are noted. No alteration of this product is allowed. Do not use this device for any purpose other than that for which it was intended. Failure to heed any one or combination of these warnings may result in severe personal injury and/or property damage. Assembly Models ZCA, MLA & MLA only a For models ZCA & MLA: Assemble the -piece handle with bolt thru the unthreaded hole and tighten to the threaded hole. For model MLA: Assemble the -piece handle with bolts provided. b Secure the handle into the handle sleeve with bolt and washer provided. Tighten securely to prevent accidental removal of the handle while in use. Before Use 1. Occasionally, hydraulic jack becomes air bound during shipment and will not function properly. To correct this condition, remove oil filler plug. This will allow pressurized air to escape.. Ensure the oil level is within /1 from the inner cylinder as viewed from the oil filler plug hole. Then reinstall the oil filler plug.. Squirt a small amount of hydraulic jack oil on piston and thoroughly lubricate all moving parts of jack.. Check to ensure that jack rolls freely and pump operates smoothly before putting into service. Westward Hydraulic Service Jacks Operation Off center loads and loads lifted while jack is not level may damage the jack or cause personal injury. Lift only on those areas of the vehicle as specified by the vehicle manufacturer. After lifting, load must be supported immediately by other oppropriate means. LIFTING 1. Help prevent inadvertent vehicle movement by fully engaging emergency brake, putting transmission in park. Use wheel chocks in pairs on the wheel diagonally opposed to the wheel or axle lifted.. To close release vlave a For model ZC: With notched end of jack handle, close release valve by turning handle clockwise until it is firmly closed.. b For models ZCA, MLA and MLA: Close release valve by turning handle clockwise.. Position jack under proper lift point.. Pump handle until saddle contact with lift point is made. Ensure load is centered on saddle. Ram. To lift, pump handle until load reaches desired height.. Immediately transfer load to appropriate jack stands. LOWERING Keep hands, feet, and clutter clear of ground area when lowering the load. Avoid shock load created by quickly opening and closing the release vlave as the load is being lowered. Shock load can create dangerously high operating pressure within the hydraulic system, causing system failure and resulting in personal injury and/or property damage. 1. For model ZC, with notched end of jack handle, slowly open release valve by turning handle counterclockwise no more than one full turn..for models ZCA, MLA and NLA, open release valve very slowly by turning handle counterclockwise no more than one full turn. Maintenance Use only good grade hydraulic jack oil, avoid mixing types of oil. Do not use brake fluid, alcohol, glycerin, motor oil, or dirty oil. Improper fluid can cause serious internal damage to the jack rendering it inoperative. Oil Filler Plug ADDING OIL 1. Position the jack on level ground and fully lower the saddle. Remove oil filler plug (see Figure ).. Fill oil until about /1 above the inner cylinder as seen from the oil filler plug hole.. Reinstall oil filler plug. REPLACING OIL 1. Remove oil filler plug.. Turn jack over and drain oil out through oil filler plug hole.. Refill with new oil through the oil filler plug hole. Do not allow dirt or other foreign material to enter the hydraulic system when filling.. After refilling, remove air from system by opening release valve and rapidly pumping handle several times. Reinstall oil filler plug when done. LUBRICATION A coating of light lubrication oil to pivot points, axles and hinges sections every months, will help to prevent rust and assure that wheels, casters and pump assemblies move freely. RUST PREVENTION Check ram (see Figure ) every months for any sign of rust or corrosion. Clean as needed and wipe with an oil saturated cloth. NOTE: When not in use, always leave the saddle and ram all the way down. Reservoir Piston Figure - Power Unit of Hydraulic Jack
