Elected & Volunteer Positions for Ministry Opportunities International Baptist Church Cologne Church Year 2010 Members of IBC Cologne: With the approach of our new church year, Feb - Jan, the time for general elections to the elected positions in the church has arrived. The Church Leadership Team is presenting to you this list of elected ministry opportunities established by the church in its official Policy Manual. We ask you to prayerfully and seriously consider God s will in ministry to the church. According to God s Word, every believer is a minister who stands under divine orders to contribute ministry to the life of the church, as Paul outlines in Eph. 4:11-16: 11 The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. 14 We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. 15 But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body s growth in building itself up in love. Our church earnestly seeks to provide ministry opportunities for all the saints so they can walk in obedience to the command of God. The list below gives a listing of available ministries at present in the life of our church. Consider the following steps: 1. Carefully and prayerfully read through the list of opportunities with a brief description of duties. 2. Under God s guidance, write your name in the place -- perhaps places -- where you have willingness to serve in an elected and/or voluntary position of ministry. 3. Return this completed Ministry Survey to Pastor Lorin no later than January 24, 2010. The Church Leadership Team will collate the surveys and then prepare a list of nominations to be presented to the church in the Business Meeting on January 31, 2010. As your pastor, let me urge you to seriously seek God s leadership in ministry commitment. Whether our church moves forward in stronger ministry and witness, or whether it turns away from ministry into a slow, painful spiritual death of the congregation, will be largely determined by your decision about serving God here. We have made some progress this past year toward genuine Christian ministry, but we are far from realizing the potential this congregation has to serve God and to advance the gospel in our city. This chart presents the official organizational structure that the reorganizing process is moving toward. It was adopted by the church on the 22 March 2009, along with six guiding principles establishing the boundaries of the reorganizing process. Guiding Principles: 1. Six basic ministry areas are to be addressed by the church, plus the pastoral care of the church mem bers to be shared between the pastor and deacons. 2. Each ministry area will be comprised of a team of three to six or more members, elected by the church. The number of team members will be determined by the list of duties assigned to each team and the ministry responsibilities. 3. The of each ministry team will represent his/her team on the Leadership Team. The of each ministry team will be elected by the church 4. Either the leader of the Leadership Team or the Chair Person of the Deacon Body will serve as the Lay Leader of the church -- in German Baptist life, called the Gemeindeleiter -- depending upon needs, interests, and qualifications of the individual. 5. Evangelism Ministry Leadership Elected Positions: The Evangelism Ministry program will promote evangelism 1 in the life and ministry of the church. 1. : Evangelism Ministry Duties: This leader will represent the Evangelism Ministry Team on the Church Leadership Team, and coordinate the work of the Evangelism Team. 2. Personal Evangelism : Personal Evangelism Duties: This leader will coordinate efforts in the church to provide witness training for members and scheduled efforts to share the Christian faith with non-believers. 3. Church Promotion : Church Promotion Duties: This team member will coordinate the efforts to promote awareness of the church in the Cologne / Bonn area. 4. Bonn Ministry : Bonn Ministry Duties: This leader shall be responsible for leading the outreach program of the church in the Bonn / Bad Godesberg area. 5. Web Master: Web Master Duties: This person will develop and maintain the church s web site. 6. Special Events : Special Events Duties: This leader shall be responsible for leading the special events planning and implementation for the church in the Cologne / Bonn area. Worship Ministry Leadership Elected Positions: 1 By evangelism is meant the sharing of one s faith in Jesus Christ with non-believers and the promotion of the IBC Church to prospective members in the Cologne / Bonn region. The Worship Ministry program will promote the worship and praise of God in the life and ministry of the church. 1. : Worship Ministry Duties: This leader will represent the Worship Ministry Team on the Church Leadership Team, and coordinate the work of the Worship Ministry Team. 2. Sound Ministry : Sound Ministry Duties: This leader will coordinate the setting up, operation, and taking down of the sound system for the worship services of the church. 3. Prayer Ministry : Prayer Ministry Duties: This leader will coordinate the promotion of prayer in the life of the church. 4. Instrumentalists : Instrumentalists Duties: This leader will coordinate the ministry of those playing musical instruments during the worship services of the church. 5. Special Music : Speical Music Duties: This leader will arrange for special music to be presented during the worship services of the church. Welcoming Ministry Leadership Ministry Positions: The Welcoming Ministry program will seek to create an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness for all who attend the services of the church. 1. : Welcoming Duties: This leader will represent the Welcoming Ministry on the Church Leadership Team and will coordinate the work of the Welcoming Ministry Team. 2. Announcements : Announcements Duties: This leader will coordinate individuals to lead the wecoming and announcements segments of the worship services of the church. 3. Usher : Usher Duties: This leader will arrange for individuals to greet, help seat etc. individuals attending the worship services of the church. Page 5
Finance Minstry Leadership Elected Positions: The Finance Ministry program will oversee the financial contributions to the ministries of the church. 1. Financial Secretary: Financial Secretary Duties: This leader will represent the Finance Ministry Team on the Church Leadership Team and will oversee the collecting and dispursal of funds given to the church. 2. Church Treasurer: Church Treasurer Duties: This leader will also represent the Finance Ministry Team on the Church Leadership Team and will oversea the bank depositing of funds given to the church. 3. Budget Coordinator: Budget Coordinator Duties: This leader will give leadership to the development and administration of a church budget for the orderly dispursal of funds given to the church. Children s Ministry Leadership Elected Positions: The Children s Ministry will provide appropriate Bible teaching and spiritual encouragement to the children of the church. Page 6
1. : Children Ministry Duties: This leader will represent the Children s Ministry Team on the Church Leadership Team and will coordinate the church s ministry to the children of the church. 2. Lead Teacher: The Children s Ministry Lead Teacher Duties: This leader will prepare the Bible study activities for the designated Sunday / Friday time on a monthly schedule. Youth Ministry Leadership Elected Positions: The Youth Ministry will seek to evangelize and disciple the youth people of our community. 1. Youth Pastor: Youth Pastor Duties: The Youth Pastor will coordinate the ministry of the church to the young people in the church. 2. Youth Ministry : Youth Ministry duties: This leader will coordinate with the Youth Pastor the support of the youth ministry by the Youth Ministry Leadership Team. Women s Ministry Leadership Elected Positions: The Women s Ministry will promote Christian discipleship along with missionary understanding among the members of the church, and especially among the women and girls of the church. Spiritual Development Leader: Spiritual Development Leader Duties: This leader will coordinate programs and activities intended to encourage spiritual growth among the women and girls in the church. 3. Mentoring Leader: Mentoriing Leader Duties: This leader will coordinate efforts to develop spiritual relationships among the women and girls in the church. 4. Personal Evangelism Leader: Personal Evangelism Leader Duties: This leader will coordinate efforts to train and encourage the sharing of faith by the women and girls in the church. 5. Mission Education Leader: Mission Education Leader Duties: This leader will coordinate efforts to educate the church about mission and evangelistic ministries of the International Baptist Convention and the Bund der Evangelishfreikirchlichen Gemeinden. 6. Mission Activities Leader: Missionar Activities Leader Duties: This leader will coordinate efforts of the women and girls in the church for specific ministry actions in our community. 7. Development of Prayer Life Leader: Prayer Life Leader Duties: This leader will coordinate efforts to promote a developing prayer life among the women and girls in the church. Properties Ministry Elected Positions: The Properties Ministry will give leadership to the maintance and use of all the material properties owned and used by the church. 1. : Properties Minstry Duties: This leader will coordinate the work of maintaining and using all the material properties owned and used by the church. 2. Church Kitchen : Church Kitchen Duties: This leader will coordinate the work of providing for church fellowships and meals after the worship services of the church. 3.
