Lesson 7 IMPACT BIBLE STUDY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS THE TABERNACLE INTRODUCTION: At Mt. Sinai God instructed Moses how to build the Tabernacle. The people were not to think just any place of worship would do. Exodus 25-27 reveals the plan for the Tabernacle; Exodus 36-38 is the performance of that plan with 100% compliance. The Tabernacle had to be built in God s way by God s men. Isaiah 55:8, 9. Day 1 Tabernacle Construction 1. a. How was the Tabernacle to be financed (Exodus 25:1-8)? b. What items were to be contributed? c. Why was the Tabernacle to be built? 2. REVIEW: Where did the Israelites get the articles to contribute? 3. a. In Exodus 31:1-6 & 35:30-35, who had been designated to lead construction? b. What did God give them to accomplish their work? 4. Moses had an unusual problem in Exodus 36:5-7. What was it? 5. To get a picture in his mind, what did God show Moses... a. in Exodus 26:30?

b. in Hebrews 8:5? 6. a. When was the Tabernacle completed (Exodus 40:17)? b. What happened upon completion (Exodus 40:34)? Day 2 Ark of the Covenant & Mercy Seat Exodus 25:10-22, 37:1-9 7. a. Of what two materials was the Ark constructed? b. Besides the Ark itself, what was to be a permanent part of it? 8. Hebrews 9:1-4 tells what the contents of the Ark were eventually. List them. 9. a. The Mercy Seat/atonement cover (NIV) was constructed of what? b. Where was the Mercy Seat to be placed? c. What was the purpose of the Mercy Seat? Day 3 Table of Showbread Exodus 25:23-30; Leviticus 24:5-9 10. The table was made of what materials? 11. a. How many cakes/loaves were to be placed on the table (Leviticus 24:5-9)?

b. How were they to be arranged? c. How often was the bread to be changed? d. What happened to the old bread? 12. I Samuel 21:1-6 speaks of the showbread. What were the circumstances? 13. (IN-DEPTH) What was Jesus referring to in Matthew 12:5 saying that the priests broke the Sabbath? Day 4 Golden Lampstand & Altar of Incense Exodus 25:31-40, 30:7-8, 30:22-25 14. How many branches were on the lamp and how many lights? 15. a. Who is the light referred to in I John 1:5? b. What did Jesus say in John 8:12? 16. When was Aaron to tend the Altar of Incense (Exodus 30:7, 8)? 17. In Luke 1:5-11, God broke His 400 years of silence by speaking to Zechariah. a. What was he doing?

b. What were the people doing? 18. Revelation 8:3, 4 says what will be added to incense in heaven? Day 5 Bronze Altar Exodus 27:1-8 19. a. The bronze altar was used for sacrifice. What was on the four corners of the altar? b. What was their purpose? See Psalm 118:27 (NASV) 20. Leviticus 17:11 speaks about the blood of the sacrifice. What does is say is the purpose of the blood? 21. a. Who was to use the bronze laver before approaching God? b. Spiritual cleansing is necessary before approaching a holy God. How do you think this is accomplished? c. What do you learn in Hebrews 10:19-22? (IN-DEPTH): Below is a floor plan of the Tabernacle. It is important to get a picture in our minds of what it looked like when completed. The Tabernacle was surrounded by a courtyard enclosed by an 8 fence of white linen. The one entrance faced east. Dimensions of the outer court were 100 cubits (a cubit is approximately 18 ) by 50 cubits, or 150 x 75 (approximately the size of a modern basketball court). It was constructed with a system of boards and sockets enabling it to be dismantled and reinstalled when the people were on the move.

The Tabernacle itself was 30 cubits long, 10 cubits wide and 10 cubits high or 45 x 15 x 15. Since the outer curtain was 8 high and the Tabernacle 15 high, the Tabernacle was visible above the fence of white linen. There were four coverings over the Tabernacle. These curtains were made of (1) linen, (2) goats hair, (3) ram s skin dyed red and (4) badger/porpoise/sea cow skin (depending upon your translation) which was the waterproof covering. Dividing the interior was a curtain/veil of blue, purple and scarlet material woven with cherubims. This curtain divided the Tabernacle into two areas: the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. Several miscellaneous bronze utensils were used inside. 22. Using the Exodus Scripture reference on the floor plan, identify the following letters: a. d. g. b. e. c. f. Approximate Value: $1,500,000.00 23. What happened to the temple veil* in Matthew 27:50, 51? All the beauty of the Tabernacle could only be seen from the inside, just as Christ s beauty is seen only by those inside Christ. Pray that this time in God s Word will help you to better understand the relationship between Christ and the Tabernacle as stated in Hebrews 9:11, 12.
